Ive started a new project at BitcoinMedia.

The idea with this is to gather all our promotion ideas together and organise campaigns to advertise and market bitcoin. In this thread I will collect ideas as they come in to the forum in one spot to focus the support of the community. BitcoinMedia will also find and promote content producers who accept bitcoin payments or donations for their work. Think of it as a clearing house for online bitcoin media. I will feature people on the site who accept bitcoin for their content so get those artistic juices flowing !

There are accounts you can follow at twitter,a facebook page, digg and a mailing list to sign up to. I also started a blog and in future will allow anyone to contribute content related to bitcoin which will be blasted out to all the social media accounts. (send me a pm or post in the google group if you wish to be added as a contributor!) Follow all these accounts, invite all your friends and promote them in your own circle of friends.

To take things to the next level I have donated to the bounty to get the bitcoin animated movie made and soon the total on offer will be $1000
Update:http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=697.80  I donated to the movie bounty and am waiting to see if the thread gets updated. If anyone can poke bytemaster and get him to update the bounty it would be appreciated.

To help fund future campaigns and promotions you can donate bitcoins or subscribe to a monthly BAMP program (Bitcoin advertise, market and promote.) The idea is that rather than just one person funding the effort a small monthly contribution from everyone who uses bitcoin will add up to a money bomb!. I borrowed the donation model from   free talk live.

I hope this becomes an open source collaborative effort where the best people for each idea or promotion contributes to their area of expertise.

Some examples to start discussion-
* Keep hammering your social media sites first thing with a #bitcoin related post, plus a link to the BitcoinMedia or bitcoin.org site.

* A bitcoin merchandise shop. You might get some stickers and post them where people use coins such as tollbooths or slap them on vending machines! Or grab some bookmarks and "enhance" reading materials wherever people gather- economic books at the public library,at rest stops on the highway, doctors surgeries.

* When you sign up for a hosting plan for your Web site, you're often given $50 of free AdWords ads; use those ads to send traffic to the bitcoin.org or bitcoinmedia sites.

* Link to the bitcoin.org or bitcoinmedia site in your blogroll.

* Change the name of your public wireless network to "Bitcoin"

* Write up a press release about bitcoin and distribute it to some of the bazillion free PR services eg

http://www.prlog.org/
http://www.pr.com/press-releases

Here is a list of 50 such sites

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Idea:
Bitcoin Easter Egg Hunt.

Hide wallet.dat files in a software, game, or website you are developing and leave some clues with your users.

Are wallet.dat files from Windows usable under Linux, and vice versa?

I posted a summary of bitcoin on the freetalklive show prep before I realized it was put there before. It looks like the old one can't be voted up anymore so maybe it's good to have it there again, or maybe rude, I don't know.

I just found freetalklive like 3 days ago, wtf, how did I miss this?

Here is another idea:

BitcoinTrading.com

This can be a site where I give trading advice and analysis (I am a technical trading analyst with 10+ years experience in global financial markets), that I offer to apply for people trading BTC's.

As I am not a webdesigner, I need someone to help set it up.

what think?

Hi

I am new in Bitcoins, but I represent Wirtland and I see a lot of synergy for promotion of bitcoins in Wirtland. Wirtland's the largest web micronation which has about 1500 citizens from all five continents and growing fastly. BTW in 2009 Wirtland became world's first micronation to produce its own physical gold and silver coins. More info on Wirtland can be found in Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirtland_(micronation) (and at our sites, see bottom)

Recently a Wirtland member from Greece posted on our forum that Wirtland may be an ideal place for mass use and promotion of Bitcoins.

Do you agree there may be possibilities for cooperation or at least for cross-promotion of Bitcoins in Wirtland?

Thanks,

Vic

Maybe you could do a subscription newsletter or email list and charge bitcoins to read it?

I dont think anyone has such a thing yet.

I think all these ideas are very good and realistic. In Wirtland, they had talks about own payment system and stock market for a long time, but it seems they do not have really good experts to realize this.

I can talk to people at Wirtland. In the meantime, if you prefer feel free to contact Wirtland directly by email (address is on the www.wirtland.com site). And of course you can always become citizen of Wirtland and start any project there - including Bitcoin or BitcoinTrading. By the way, they can help you with web design if you need.

If you think the idea is worthwhile, maybe I should start a separate thread here on cooperation with Wirtland, and let  everybody come up with proposals? (I did not want to do that straightway, because I am new and did not want to annoy...  Undecided )

Vic I just checked out Wirtland and that seems like an excellent idea! Surely they would be interested in a system like this, and I have to say, Wirtland itself is an interesting concept I have never seen or thought of before.

A global, electronic currency like Bitcoin seems like exactly what Wirtland would need.

Cool! I am glad to hear that. I'm a Wirtland enthusiast myself, but I see that Wirtland's weak point is its business side - they do not have right people. It would be great to match "witizens" with people who know more about web trade, payment systems etc.

For instance Wirtland says that one can register a company in Wirtland. But what's the use of incorporation without opening a bank account?? If we could install a working payment system with Bitcoin, incorporation in Wirtland would become attractive for thousands of people...

People are working on these issues right now in regards to setting up companies to support their bitcoin activities. I can see parallels between setting up an entirely new country and a new economic system at the same time.
