On the help page it shows a feature to get notified of new messages in a topic: http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=index#topic

However, this feature is nowhere to be found in the actual forum. Why not?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

It's the "Show new replies to your posts" link up at the top of you web page. You have to post at least once in a thread for it to capture new posts in a thread.

So what if I want to subscribe to a topic that I haven't participated in? The feature should be there according to the help page.

Post a "Just for tracking" message in that thread

That's lame since the feature is supposed to be implemented already. It's like the forum administrator has turned it off, and this topic can be seen as a plea to turn it back on.

It was disabled:

I suspect the reason e-mails from bitcoin.org such as the validation e-mail from the wiki are getting spamblocked is because we didn't have e-mail validation turned on for the forum, so maybe spammers used the forum to set their e-mail to people they wanted to send spam to and then PM themselves so it would e-mail there.  The only way to really know would be to look at the mail server logs and see if there's a large volume and what it is.

I turned on e-mail validation of new accounts on the forum, but now people can't sign up because the validation e-mail gets spamblocked.  Someone said gmail is one case.

So here we are, nobody new can sign up to the forum.

It would help if we could turn off the forum's notification e-mail features.  I tried to disable what I could, but it only had settings for forum thread notifications.  Can someone tell me if PM notifications are still active or any e-mail notification anywhere else on the forum.

Maybe we should disable the forum's access to the e-mail server entirely, then turn off registration e-mail until we work this out further.  I don't know where that setting is in the SMF interface.

It was disabled:

It was actually a non-spammers list that didn't have our ip. I enabled the notifications now.

Hm, it seems email notificiations are not working.

I'm not receiving any e-mails when I receive new PMs nor when there are new replies to topics.

Ah, am receiving topic reply notifications too now. Maybe the emails were just delayed.

Still not receiving for PMs though.

Have you checked the option in settings?

Under "Personal Message Options" I have "Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:" set to "Always".

Is there any way we can get a "go to first unread post" button as well?  Or am I just missing it because I'm unfamiliar with the software?

I would definitely like that feature. I can't see it anywhere in the options.

While we are on the subject, is there a way to "unnotify" a topic?
