Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin

Nxt uses brand new software.  It’s not a fork of Bitcoin's source code.

Nxt is the first 100% Proof-of-Stake (PoS) currency.  Coins are earned solely by charging transaction fees.  Unlike other currencies with PoS mining, Nxt's PoS mining does not cause monetary inflation.  The total amount of Nxt in circulation is 1 billion.  Nxt is resistant to +90% attacks via its transparent forging algorithm.

Nxt improves different features of Bitcoin, removes some disadvantages (e.g. bloated blockchain) and resolves a big environmental issue.  Time between blocks is one minute.  This increases the rate of orphaned blocks, but makes it more convenient for the users.

Nxt doesn’t use so-called “scripts” aka predicates.  This simplifies and accelerates transaction processing.  Advanced features like multisig will be created on top of the core as 3rd party services.

Nxt is routable through Tor and I2P anonymous networks.

Nxt Software Change Log

BE SURE TO CHECK THE SHA256 HASH OF YOUR DOWNLOAD!

If you're running GNU/Linux, the program sha256sum is standard on most versions of the OS.  Use the sha256sum command:
'sha256sum PATH_TO_NXT_DOWNLOAD'

If you're running OS X, a SHA-256 can be calculated using the openssl command in an open terminal (the terminal is located in /Applications/Utilities).
'openssl sha256 PATH_TO_NXT_DOWNLOAD'

If you're running Windows, use an online calculator to calculate the sha256 hash.  Upload the Nxt.zip file you downloaded, when the website asks for a file.

Open Nxt Client
- Open your browser and go to http://localhost:7874
- Click the "Lock" icon in the upper left corner to unlock your account.
- Enter your passphrase or if you don't have an account, enter your new passphrase.  Make sure you use a very random, complex password of at least 80 characters.  You can use 0-1, a-z, A-Z, special and national characters.

Security Tips

- Do NOT use the passphrase for your Nxt account on a VPS client.  Only use your Nxt passphrase on a local Nxt client.  Even if you connect to your VPS securely via SSH, you are still not safe because all VPSs have backdoors.
- 7874 (tcp) is used for P2P communication.
- 7875 (tcp) is used for the http web client.
- 7876 (tcp) is used for API commands.

It's not a problem. Someone announced an incorrect IP address (I see 88.198.210.2455 for example) and client tries to connect to it.

Please reference the Next API thread too.   Any ETA on when the new client functionality comes out?  I think the earlier version had messaging, but I did not see that in the last TEST client.  Will it be there?  I had some ideas for using that interesting feature.

You can currently send, receive and mine Nxt.  Other features are currently being worked on.  The distributed currency exchange is scheduled to be working around January 3rd, 2014.

Nxt is just as operational as any other cryptocurrency.

You should add to the initial post that the client GUI can be accessed (after installing and launching the java client) by going to your browser and visiting this page:

http://localhost:7875/

In the GUI click the lock symbol to create a new account. You will be asked for a phraze. Select a long one (15+ chars!) as this phraze WILL BE YOUR WALLET. There is no user name, and no wallet file. The wallet IS the phraze you select when creating the account. Never give this phraze no anyone. If someone finds out this phraze he will get your wallet (from any computer!). After account creation you will get an account number (long number). This account number can be used to receive and send Nxt coins.

To send Nxt to another account use the arrow in the right upper corner (this is confusing to many).

There are much more peers on the network. Is the time/timezone on ur machine correct? Only +/-15 sec is allowed.

Only after I exit and re-open the browser and re-login into my account again, it shows some max. 50 to 100 block height change.
I am waiting to catch up the blockchain to send some tx. As I tried several times, it says: please wait until the blockchain become loaded..

If you have MacOS try reinstalling jdk and jre - it helped me with the same problem but maybe it was something else who knows? Doesn't hurt to try though..

It takes 1 min to get the whole blockchain. If this doesn't happen, then delete *.nxt files and try again. Looks like u started to download the blocks but then lost connection to the peer and stuck.
