So, I have created a token on the Counterparty platform called GITC, which I am selling for BTC (5 USD) per unit. There should be about 1 million units in existence.

To keep ourselves from over promising this token comes with no guarantees or promises. You can think of it as a way to support our projects if you like what we are doing. Theoretically of course it could increase in value if demand is higher than supply but that is of course nothing we guarantee.

I like to think of this as an honest way to do fundraising. I do not make any promises whatsoever, but the funds could certainly come in handy for working more on many of the ideas and visions I have - which I am happy to discuss by the way.

What is counterparty, exactly?

Counterparty is, perhaps not exactly but sort of, a platform built on top of Bitcoin where you can issue and trade tokens.

so basically these tokens have a worth in Bitcoin, like redeemable coupons?
