Title: Bitcoin Over I2P
Post by: xDroidx on May 26, 2011, 02:09:19 PM
Is there a way to get the Bitcoin client running directly over I2P?

I have searched the forum, but this subject appears to be being avoided. TOR leaks quite badly even taking all the necessary precautions, so I am not keen on using that network (it is also extremely slow and overloaded).

If you want an impartial comparison by someone who is highly regarded in the security industry: http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=videos/darknets-i2p-tor-phreaknic (http://www.irongeek.com/i.php?page=videos/darknets-i2p-tor-phreaknic)

A guide would be nice if anyone else has attempted this and got it working :)

I was speaking to Adrian a while ago about this, and I told him about bitcoins and he was interested, keep an eye out on his site :)

Cool beans but I don't want to bother him with this if at all possible. I am sure he is busy enough already :D

MyBitcoin is a workaround for trading, but it depends how much you trust them to handle your money and I would prefer to manage my own wallet.

I have also seen someone else talking about BOB in another thread for using Bitcoin over I2P.

I can't tell you how much I look forward to seeing IG's take on BTC. His videos have taught me so much and through his site I learned about BinRev which in the years since has taught me even more. He gets MAJOR respect from me and I know I'm not the only one  8)

This would certainly be nice, but I don't think it's possible at the moment.

Title: Merge Namecoin with I2P
Post by: TylerJordan on July 22, 2011, 04:47:03 AM
I'd like to see a new i2p - "I3P" ?? that merges namecoin tech with I2P tech.  I2P is brilliant in it's security as it's a seperate network (Namecoin's weakpoint). Namecoin is brilliant as it gives incentive for people to run servers to resolve addresses (I2P's weakpoint). Together they'd be brilliant and would also be a useful system of money - so it's bitcoin, I2P, and namecoin all in one.

If this was rolled into a nice linux distro with XAMPP and put onto little portable ssd's then:

1. people could do exchanges with no traceback to a physical address by default

2. currency exchanges and traders could easily go underground to prevent fascist governments from attacking them

3. one network for everything focuses development.

4. developers get in on the ground floor and can earn quite a bit of early loot (like satoshi did!).

If there're any good hackers out there with free time - this might be a great project.

To reduce the early need for pools, starting out at 0.5 bitcoins per block instead of 50 would be a better start - i.e. 100x more winner blocks means more opportunities and hence less need for pools.
