Title: Which powerful ATI card is compatible with my motherboard? Post by: josell on May 26, 2011, 07:21:40 PM Hi, my name is Joseph.
I want to invest in a powerful graphic card for mining bitcoins, because i think it is too dangerous to invest buying bitcoins (if, for example, I loose my wallet); however, a powerful card can be sold again in the worst cases. Of course, my budget is smaller than 200 dollars, but I think it is enough for a good and modern ATI card for mining. My motherboard is a little "basic", but it is relatively modern: it have two PCI slots, one PCI-e x16 slot, and a PCI-e x1 slot as well. However, I don't want to buy powerful card, if it can't fully work with my motherboard. That's what I fear. Please help me to choose the most powerful and best video card for my system. If you choose well, I'll give you some coins; if everything goes ok. This is the technical information of my system: Motherboard: ASRock N68-S UCC Processor: AMD Sempron 140, 2700 MHz (13.5 x 200) RAM memory: 1.5 GB Operating systems: Windows 7 and Ubuntu 11.04 If another technical details are needed, please ask me for them. Cool, but i ask if any can fully work or could be limited by the mother board / slot speed.I know a little of assemble hardware and software, but not about some technical details like this, and i wantto be trust in my invest. But thank you. Title: Re: Which powerful ATI card is compatible with my motherboard? Post by: bcpokey on May 26, 2011, 07:37:35 PM As I understand it, hashing is not limited by PCIE in any way shape or form. There is no card that can max out even a PCI-E x1 slot.
Just make sure you have 2 spaces between the two slots, or else if you use a different card in conjunction with the mining card you won't be able to fit them. If it will be just that card in the machine then it will be fine. I will point out though that it will be very unprofitable to mine a single card on a machine.
