I was thinking of buying the Antminer S1 a while ago too (thread here (http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=903815)). It's not the latest or most efficient miner out there but they are definitely very cheap. For example, here's one in my country that is selling for $40 NZD (about $30 USD):

http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/other/auction-862628667.htm

According to this (http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty) link, 180 GH/s should generate about 0.01356 BTC (worth $3.32 USD) per week or 0.05811 BTC (worth $14.23) per month.

The S1 becomes more efficient if you undervolt it. Then it will do 140 GH/s while only consuming 140 W. It should be quieter too.

If you have free electricity then the Antminer S1 undoubtedly the most profitable miner out there. However, if you pay for your electricity then the S1, while cheap to purchase, is probably not all that profitable since a newer miner such as the S5 can pump out four times the GH/s per watt compared to the S1.

they should be all about the same, just connect usb and pci-e

s1 consume less power so you don't need a strong psu

If you're in it to make a profit, don't :) If you want to be part of the bitcoin/crypto movement, please do. Only if you don't have to pay for electricity will you turn an s1 into profit,. or an absurd price increase :)

He said it in the OP, he doesn't have enough money for anything more....

So the plan is to lose whatever money he s got. Not a good idea.

An S3 is $150..

Although I guess you should be able to find an S1 for $50.

IMO the best bet by far for a cheaper miner is to get the "New Rbox" from rock miner.  If your computer PS is good enough you can just use one of the spare 6 pin molex connectors to power the unit and your comp.  That is what I am doing.

I believe it is 250 mBTC for one INCLUDING shipping.  170mBTC no shipping.

OP refuses to listen to logic, in all of his other post we told him to buy coins.

Yeah but some do wish to be part of the ecosystem, not only for profit, let him, for godsakes ;D

Well, I see no point posting here and asking advice if he s already decided what to do.

I would go for an S3. I am not sure where you are but I pick them up all the time for 80 to 105 depending on how far I want to drive.

Not really worth it unless you have free electricity or just want to do it for the fun of it and not to make a profit.

Edit: I should note I have really cheap electricity and still use two old miners as a result one I run on Slush's where it doesn't do too bad if they hit enough blocks, the other I run on Triplemining in case I hit their little lottery which would make it worthwhile.

Pretty non-profitable at this point. Check out the new batch of S4's maybe, theyre a bit cheaper and maybe a good ROI

It's a waste of everything to still be buying S1's...
If anything, look at S3's, they're cheaper than S5.
The S1 is more of a novelty value miner now, very few still use those.
The S3's are often on special on eBay too.

However, since you're adamant on getting a decrepit miner, I'd suggest getting a U1 or U3 then.
They are USB miners btu a whole lot cheaper than a full sized miner.
Keep in mind, the S1 requires you to buy a power supply of at least 550 watts... USB miners don't need one.
Lastly, don't expect any profit from any of the miners suggested in this thread.

Don't do it, it s worthless. You are going to waste your money.
you directly told its worthless and don't waste your money.
can you really tell me why do you think like this or may be you have lot of experience in mining with antminer s1,s2,s3....
so i am serious to buy it so it will be better for me that you confirm first why it will be worthless for me?

Why did you dig up a one year old post?

I will believe you on the question .

A s-1 at best uses 1.2 watts when clock low and under voted.

An s-2 uses around .9 watts

The s-3 uses about .6 watts when clocked low and undervalued.

These watt uses are very high.  So they would lose money .
