Title: Bitcoin in Games
Post by: turvarya on March 28, 2015, 07:15:33 PM
Today I played Dreamfall Chapters. There I got Cryptocurrency, because people in The  Bricks prefer this kind of cash, that can not be traced like Credits(it plays in the future).
In Farcry 4 you can find cryptocurrency drives. It is just random loot you can sell.
Does anybody know other references?

would be nice to have good 3D MMORPG that officially accepts cryptocurrency as an in game currency, but I only know of BitFantasy and VoidSpace.. and both of them isn't very good looking.

There are 2 minecraft servers currently working with btc:

minecraftcc.com
Gives some satoshi per broken block. Max 0.01 btc per week. (with haste 2 beacon and eff 5 pick its doable)

bitquest.co
Gives one bit (100 satoshi) per emerald. Emeralds can be obtained by killing monsters, trading to people or villagers.

Both wont give much, but its free btc. And bitquest uses emeralds (thus bitcoin) as ingame currency.

You can actually make BTC playing games? I guess this is the level of a BTC faucet, just a bit of BTC dust, right?

Yea pretty much. Like stated its 0.01 btc per week on one server, the other is unlimited but harder.

I think the OP meant valid and famous games that 'talk' (in a chapter or two) about bitcoin or better in which you can 'play' with them. For example, sell a thing (in the game) for bitcoin or resolve a cryptography problem (something like that).

SaruTobi - A Super Mario-style game

http://venturebeat.com/2015/03/11/bitcoins-next-frontier-a-reward-for-gamers/

A new game appeared recently in the App Store in which players earn Bitcoins just from playing well.

SaruTobi is a Super Mario-style game. It’s name is Japanese for “flying monkey,” and it not only managed to successfully gain Apple App Store approval but also found a unique way to introduce iOS gamers to Bitcoin.

Marrying gaming and Bitcoin together is a shrewd move by the developer, as gamers and owners of the cyptocurrency share a lot of similar demographics. Typical Bitcoin users being profiled as a tech-savvy male, 25 to 40, with above-average income, according to a report by Nicholas Colas, the chief market strategist for Convergex, last year.

People are just not reading opening post at all and instead they are just replying to the post directly above theirs post in most cases.

Anyway you can find some sort of cryptocurrency as we now know it in huge variety of games but they are not called bitcoin but instead are called something like 'credits'.
I did not  find any direct reference to bitcoin in games I play so far. But I think in the future when bitcoin will be better known there will be many.

Ah hahaha, and then there's the post below yours, which is saying something completely unrelated to the thread and any post inside it...

Nationstates had an april fools day thing in 2013 or 2014 with bitcoin, but it was one day only. It was really fun though, and their servers really lagged, because a lot of people played it at that time.

I'm just patiently waiting for bitcoin reference in the newest GTA. It belongs there. Just one bitcoin-themed mission will do

There is actually a new service or company leetcoin which will be introducing API's integrating bitcoin to other games like CS. I am sure this will be a major boost to bitcoin.

I would like to see cryptocurrencies in minecraft, you could mine them and trade them and it all gets throught the blockchain in real time, would make mining not a waste of time.

There was a minecraft casino. I think the owner exit scammed. Also another called the bit mines, never played but I think its closed too. It was basically you buy land claims and mine them for items
