Title: 2/3 of All Bitcoin Mined!
Post by: lyth0s on March 28, 2015, 09:34:02 PM
We are about 1 day away from 2/3 of bitcoins being mined that will ever exist (14,000,000 out of 21,000,000).

A day of celebration similar to that of the next halving event :)

Wow I didn't realize about that, I only have the halving on my calendar, this is a pretty huge landmark. Another big reminder that you are clinically insane to not hold a couple BTC by now.

I hope bitcoin still spreading and expanding, makes the coin still valuable

Yey.... To think we will not see the last coin mined.  :(

If Bitcoin keep it's current position on the top of all crypto currencies.... We will see crazy prices for our hodled bitcoins.  ;D ;D ;D

It's still a huge landmark and we should celebrate it with a virtual party.. Next round of virtual drinks are on me.  ;D ;D ;D

Good for the ones that managed to get in BTC few years ago.

But I guess the newcomes might not be really happy with this.

Please don't stress this fact while trying to attract new people to BTC

Wow, 2/3 Bitcoins has been mined, if it's reached 3/3....
then, no other bitcoins? so that means Bitcoin mining will die soon...
If bitcoin mining died, then mining hardware will be worthless...
so Bitcoin is limited, but not today, it will...

Or, we just got paid from already mined bitcoin?

14 is the luckiest number that has ever existed and all people will agree. It is the number you get when unlucky 13 is over with and is like a new beginning. Kind of like how in '13 the opportunity to buy cheap BTC was taken from us but '14 made it better and everyone cheered.

Sometimes I don't even realize how many Bitcoins have been mined. I somehow keep thinking of the supply as it was in '12/'13. Those were the days.  :)

By a remarkable coincidence, we're also almost 2/3 of the way between the first and second halving events.
Or 69 weeks, 4 days, 17 hours, 30 minutes to go.

Although I do think that it will come sooner, the ETA has been decreasing. Since I've been following the website, I've seen it be mid August, early August now it's late July.

This 2 thirds took just over 6 years. This next third is going to take somewhere between 120-135 years from now. That's a massive jump. The first block halve starts sometime in July next year I think. After that, things become really slow.

I've been following it too, and keeping the results :).

Decreasing yeah, but it's been stuck at end of July for some months. At the same time, if we assume that the mining power will keep increasing like it did in the previous N blocks (N==20), these are the results:

Code:
Mon Dec  1 12:02:01 CET 2014 halving on 2016-05-26 23:12:28+0200
Thu Jan  1 12:02:01 CET 2015 halving on 2016-06-11 13:25:20+0200

Mon Mar  2 07:32:01 GMT 2015 halving on 2016-06-24 03:28:57+0100
Sat Mar 28 11:02:01 GMT 2015 halving on 2016-07-03 23:00:04+0100

Rapidly went through June and entered July, and keeps going forward. At this point I believe it's safe to say that the halving would occur in the second half of July 2016.

Holy shit Batman!  We are running out of Bitcoin already?  I haven't even got my miner from KnC yet.

By a remarkable coincidence, we're also almost 2/3 of the way between the first and second halving events.
Also, in nearly every type of counting system, '2' comes just before '3'.

Remember - Bitcoin was never supposed to reach that price so early. It hit $1000 as of the willy bot. The Price was manipulated.
I'd say we're about $100-$150 undervalued at this point in time.

Hopefully this means there will be normalization in the positive direction for the price of bitcoins.  I think there has been a big rush in production and I wouldn't be surprised if the supply/demand structure realize the scarcity and respond accordingly.

Another milestone for Bitcoin. A good time to look back at what we achieved, but also a good time to look forward in search of a new future, solutions to old problems and new ways to "reinvent" Bitcoin.

Let's see what we can say we've accomplished on the next milestone :)

Talk about halving we should now expect it to take place much earlier than our projected date. I expect this to be the milestone because then we'll see how efficient mining can be to continue remain profitable

2/3 bitcoin mined already and we don not have any price increase? Now I start to doubt any theories which claim that bitcoin price will grow overtime just because bitcoin supply will be lower.
After all we may be completely wrong about this and price of bitcoin will gravitate instead towards its 'production cost'.

After all we may be completely wrong about this and price of bitcoin will gravitate instead towards its 'production cost'.

Price will only grow if the user base grows. I think the next couple of years will show us whether that might happen. It's steady but still tiny right now and could easily wither.

It's probably not too far off production cost right now. I've seen a few estimates of $150 for the big players. Clever machinery and innovative ways of supplying electricity would drive that lower.

This creeped up on me, too.
Wow.
Same to me. The time is really flying fast. But nothing changes today. I mean the halving is really the next big milestone right?

Talk about halving we should now expect it to take place much earlier than our projected date. I expect this to be the milestone because then we'll see how efficient mining can be to continue remain profitable

I think the halving time has not really changed. Here is a link to the bitcoin halving clock i use.
http://bitcoinclock.com/ (http://bitcoinclock.com/) It says July 28, 2016.

How will prices of Bitcoin if 21M Bitcoin has been mined ?
Anyone owning 1 BTC by then will be part of the 1% of the new Cryptorothchilds. Sadly we'll all be buried by then. Scary thought indeed.

There's plenty of time to get used to the idea. We should all be alive to witness low enough annual inflation to observe some proper deflationary effects if it's still going in a decade or two. That's when it becomes seriously interesting.

I wonder how many of the 14 million have been lost or are otherwise out of circulation. It will be interesting to see how much hashing power it turned off when the next halving occurs. If price keeps up with the diminishing increases in supply things could indeed get interesting.

All these mega mines will be out of business in 9 years after the third halving unless they can profit from transaction fees which we would need millions of transactions per day which the block chain can't even handle.

Home miners will have to step up or the network won't be secure.

I suspect that after the rewards fall the big miners will go the way of the dinosaurs and the small miners will be the mammals that take over. Crypto evolution so to speak.

The first block halve starts sometime in July next year I think.

The second halving.

... in 9 years after the third halving...

The fourth halving.

you have huge ambitions haha. i would already be happy with just 1 bitcoin out of 14 million.

what's the year all bitcoins are mined?

Year 2140, more or less :)

Code:
How long will it take to generate all the coins?
The last block that will generate coins will be block #6,929,999 which should be generated at or near the year 2140. The total number of coins in circulation will then remain static at 20,999,999.9769 BTC.

Maybe there'll be a few people here now who'll be old ghouls there to witness it having splurged their wealth on third world organs. Even if it's a total irrelevance by then I'm sure the last one will pop out of someone's computerised pants for old time's sake.

I had forgotten BTC was growing fast. Nearly 4,000 BTC are mined each passing day. Ten years from now, that'll be probably down to 1,000. That's a big change.

So when all the BTCitcoin has mined
Is that a good thing or a bad thing???
And, can we still mine BTCitcoin?

I doubt that there is single man who holds more that 1% of all bitcoins as of now. I've heard about FBI Wallet being the biggest storage of bitcoins in the world: http://www.wired.com/2013/12/fbi_wallet/ (http://www.wired.com/2013/12/fbi_wallet/)
But I am not sure if that is the case now. And Winklevoss brothers hold about 1% of bitcoins and that is it. But I am still sad that price of bitcoin is so low even when 2/3 of it is already mined...

Be patient with the price. It will raise. After the last bubble a correction of 12-24 months is something we have to deal with.

Stay bullish..., the mid 2016 halving is the most bullish opportunity that trader will have, may be we will see even a small bubble...

If demand kept constant, there will be more buying pressure.
Don't get tricked by the current low price.

I always believe bitcoin price is still considered low. We should see the price slowly climbing up because the daily supply will be reduced by half. But I think the more profound effect is when the other halving occurs after the one that we expected to take place next year, which would be even more significant.
