Title: Countdown timer? [Solved]
Post by: bitbaby on April 02, 2015, 02:44:52 PM
Is it possible to add a countdown timer in a post?

Nothing too fancy but say that an event is going to start in 5 hours from now and it can simply go backwards from the time of that post?

Edit:

For ex. Something like this : http://www.pending.me.uk/cd/blu_1428015600.html
Not as fancy but maybe simpler or an animated gif.

you mean like automatic posts? where you can just write a post now and set a timer so that it would be posted automatically when the countdown ends?

nope, it's not possible on this forum, I think

Something like this?

http://gifcountdown.com/australia-adelaide/1428098100/141414/0f0f0f/aaaaaa/fdfdfd/faedad/true/counter.gif

Just set the time and date at http://gifcountdown.com/ (http://gifcountdown.com/) and copy the link and put the link into image tag.

this one cover up pretty much few timezones, all you need is to click the free create countdown and set the countdown that you want

No, That's not what I meant. I mean a timer which tells how much time is left for an event to begin. like 5 .. 4 .. 3

I tried this one but for some reason it's not showing the correct time. And it's not showing up to me in the post.

There's no way to embed it into the post, I mean the animated version.

You mean those that actually show a countdown even without  refreshing the page? yes there is none but still if you need the actual countdown you can refresh your page, although I remembered months back there was 1 or 2 in altcoin sections which actually displaying a countdown instead of static html picture

OP is asking for a gif setting a countdown, or if he can share some kind of link that would have a timer set. like 5hours left and the times actuates by itself

can't find anything other than gif.. there's some SMF scripts but I'm sure you have to be an admin to do that.

well all you guys posted does work. but since they are script and are not gif, you will have to refresh the page everytime to be able to see the countdown dropping down.. sucks, but it is how it is

It's not updated in real time. You need to refresh the page to see the timer change the time.

Add a countdown timer to your auction by following this tutorial: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=285166.0
Hopefully Admin will find an acceptable solution for images soon. :(

Well to be honest I solved that one a while ago just thought someone else would notice by now

Set it as needed
Can also do it date format
http://blog.seanja.com/2012/11/dynamic-animated-countdown-clock-gif/

http://seanja.com/secret/countdown/gif.php?time=2016-01-01

Answered this one in the main auction thread a while back
Guess I didn't put it in Image form so no one noticed for months ^^

Duplicates that post in the auction board as well but this time puts in the clock working as an image url
Can't delete old posts in auction lol.

There's a better way of doing that now.
You don't have to use it with gif. You can use svg format too.
You may check this thread; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1010004.0
You may need to contact with the altcoin calendar site.

agreed. unless OP needs like a big attraction on his post he would then need a bigger one to make his point taken into consideration. i mean from my point of view

Hi, I tried using this for the DaDice campaign spreadsheet. But found that this don't really work. this updates only on reload.

It goes from just loops. Just a gif of 60 frames. :(

Notice the screen for 2 minutes and you will know.

The problem is when it is put in a spreadsheet, I am sure, it just go on loooooping.

Yes, it's possible.

I saw some altcoin OPs has Countdown timer because of their ICO/IPO countdown.

But how to post the countdown timer, I don't know. Maybe just add a link?

Did a quick check and noticed that all countdown timers here updates only on reload.
While a few shows the same image, other two is a gif animated with next 60 frames.

Now, my issue is how to put a timer in Google Spreadsheet. I tried the animated gif ones, but they just doesn't get updated even after a few days. Any other ways to do so?

Thanks :)

If there is a working countdown timer, mostly GIF or SVG, you can put it/them in between image code.

No, all animated gifs have the same mechanism. Even that too. Just check after two minutes without reloading it.

I had Googled it, but used different keywords. Thanks, I think I got what I wanted. :D

Sorry I wasn't checking for the last few days
I assume you meant how to set the clock (Otherwise refer to ndnhc's reply)

All you need to do is change the date time stamp
If you want it also does it by minute and hour hand as MZ noticed :)

It reloads GIF images in a loop but for auctions each time you refresh the page the timer updates
So in general it works fairly well
At least a bit better than a static non updating image that only updates on a reload

There used to be an old discussion thread on auction clocks, the old popular one was onnit before it stopped working, but the code is the same for these type of clocks.

It's based on a timezone just like the Bitcointalk forums
I get -4 hours unless I adjust the clock do that you should be able to set it to whatever time you want.

Thank you very much! It is great. After playing with it for a while, I understood that the time can also be added after a comma. Eg:- http://seanja.com/secret/countdown/gif.php?time=2015-04-05,17:09:00.

Well it works with commas so thought I'd add that note either format passes although with a comma it does seconds too so the better choice if you want to be obsessive and have it to the exact second (and have mad timing skills XD)
Glad it helped
