Title: [Poll] Price, Mainstream media and Bitcoin
Post by: beckspace on August 16, 2012, 09:00:39 PM
In other words: Will Bitcoin get almost daily coverage on bloomberg someday? I'm tired of hearing about dollars, euros, pounds, gold, bonds, bailouts and nothing about the greatest financial invention of our times.

If by mainstream media you mean thing like the major news outlets and tv networks: Never, and I am certain of that.

But they stopped being the "main" stream a while ago  :D

Default client (Satoshi client) will never be ready for mainstream if it includes a full blockchain download. I predict that if Bitcoin ever goes mainstream it will be through some cloud wallet service like coinbase.com. Then, the only clients that might go mainstream will be 'light' clients like Electrum. People's attention spans these days are extremely short. A relatively few number of people will want to sit and wait for the blockchain to download.

For a 1% of the world M1 money supply one needs a price of approximately USD 10,000 to 1 BTC so I would say none of the above. I would suspect BTC would be quoted on Bloomberg on a regular basis once it reaches say USD 50,000 to USD 100,000 to 1 BTC. Provide options such as USD 5000, USD 10000, USD 50000 and USD 100000 and then I will vote in this poll.

You have a point. Indeed mainstream media may only talk about something really meaningful percentage wise of the world M1 money supply.

This may take a while.

Options added.

Thank you. I voted 50,000 USD per BTC which for 21 million BTC would translate into 1.05 trillion USD or roughly 5% of world M1.

As an American, I find your use of commas confusing.
