Title: Is it better to be honest and poor but not rich and dishonest?
Post by: Bitcoinexp on April 03, 2015, 01:36:28 PM
Please give me your ideas. If i see any i like or is pretty solid, I might tip. Would be good to see several points supporting both sides that are very hard to rebut. Thank you.  :)

Better in what way?

One is better financially while the other is better morally.

Is better to be happy, thats what really matters, if you are happy making money and being dishonest pick that option if you are happy being honest then be honest and poor

Exactly. You can choose either way. There is only the topic.

There is no 3rd choice, given these 2 options, which would you choose? You have to choose, basically like a debate... and provide points to support.

It is better to be honest and rich.  ;D

Who said honest people (like me ;D) can't get rich?

Well... true. But this is the topic that I want to discuss about. No other way around it. Come on guys, any good points? Well, we could start with defining the context of poor being temporary... That would help the affirmative side.  :)

Its easy to decide!

You steal money! You get rich! You get caught!

You return the money you found! The money owner will tip you! You get respected and honored!

Some taxi drivers in our country are very honest and return money if a passenger leaves them in their taxi! They've been in the news and are honored! Poor but Honest of course :)

Well, then honest but poor.

He is more likely to be happier than that greedy fellow.

What's the mean of "Rich and dishonest"? Is that dishonest about how someone get their rich (like corruption)?

Here's what I have,

Obtaining financial freedom through dishonest means.
Always frightful for one's well-being -> Mental stress -> Sleepless nights -> Insomnia -> Health risks...

Obtaining inner peace, respect and honor through honesty though being unable to afford a glamorous life.
Worry about financial problems but having a certain fulfilling perception to the world, because you don't take things for granted like most rich people do

What's the mean of "Rich and dishonest"? Is that dishonest about how someone get their rich (like corruption)?

You could link them together. You just have to define them in such a context or they can be separate characteristics of a person.  :) Just follow the topic, everything else is up to you.

How about half and half  and neither being rich nor poor  :D. Or is that a contradiction? I think you could be an honest person overall but dishonest in certain situations. I think most people will never be 100% honest and hide certain aspects of their life or behavior etc.

Then, even if linked or not linked, according to my social circle, I would like to say that to be honest & poor is better than rich & dishonest :D

You could say that. But not exactly.

Why? Points?

nobody cares about honesty anymore,  all they think of is how much money you got. Maybe someday it will be how much bitcoin you got. So get rich all the more you can earn. 8) 8)BTCBTC

Your title is messed up and doesn't make proper sense. I believe you meant to write, "Is it better to be honest and poor or rich and dishonest?

I am honest and poor and prefer to remain this way, rather than being dishonest even if it meant I could also be rich.

Very difficult question.
For normal, happy life, you need some money and good salary but if you are dishonest people will not like you much.
Because of this you will not be happy much, even you have a lot money.
Only money can't bring happiness, relationships with people make real difference in life (children, spouse etc.)

It's not really a question you can answer yourself... if you're poor you have to be honest for your own good. If you're poor you have to rely much on other people and in order to get their help you need to be honest to them. That's why majority of people have to obey the law and rules specific for their country/ region - if they won't, they'll be punished either by jail/ fine or by being banned from community. Rich people don't need to rely on anyone, they have enough money to buy all the services they need so it doesn't matter that much if they're honest or not - thus lot of rich/famous people don't really care about what other people think of them. Honesty is kind of law that most people follow for their own good - they hope that if they're honest to others, others will do the same.

its all subjective and relative, nobody can say what being honest is tbh.  lol

I would have to totally disagree with this point. Many people are happy & live a 'normal' life if there is such a thing on either not working for anyone but themselves, or by doing jobs which are considered low standard by society, for example cleaning, although without the cleaners in hospitals everything wouldn't be sterile and not a safe place to treat people, so the so called high level doctors can't operate correctly.

But to answer the question of the subject, there are two answers. You either pick the moral route or financial route. None of these is better, it's a matter of perception.

Dishonest people don't live long or happily, just look at scammers, bankers, murderers and people who commit fraud, even if they may get away with it for awhile, their own actions will stab them in the back one day.

If you have a conscience that can support your mischievous ways and you feel good with your dishonesty and assholeness that is your way. But I think that every intelligent person will have moral scruples sooner or later and then you will feel your moral hangover. It can be too late then.
