Title: Ignore a user's avatar and signature buttons
Post by: hilariousandco on April 05, 2015, 08:24:25 AM
I think it would be a good idea for individual buttons to ignore a users signature and avatar like we have to ignore a user. A recent issue was brought up here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1011789.msg10983938#msg10983938) with an arguably nsfw avatar and the only way to avoid seeing it would be to ignore that user or ignore all avatars which would probably be overkil. If there was an individual avatar or signature you found annoying/garish/distracting/offensive/nsfw etc you could just simply ignore that specific users as opposed to ignoring everything else.

+1 from me. "Ignore signature per user basis" is already suggested in BadBear's thread IIRC.

Do you mean something like that?

I also support your idea, and I hope to see this improvement in the new forum software.

Yes. Something like that would be fine but would it clutter if it is listed like in that image? I understand you gave it as an example.

Yes. I was going to suggest putting them underneath their avatars and signature but your edit would probably look better.

Yes it was only an example to make clear the idea but I am sure  theymos can add this function "right now" if he wants and put these buttons : one under the avatar and the other near the signature.

Not really. With adblockplus (and probably other ad blockers), you can create a custom filter for that specific user's avatar image.

I support this idea as some people have really annoying/indecent Avatars and it would be better to just ignore the user's Avatar rather than ignoring all the Avatars.

Can you help us to "program" a custom filter for hide some avatars. Because as erikalui said, there are some users that have put really indecent avatars, but I don't want to disable the view of all the other avatars.

Well it would be much easier to just add this option rather than everyone installing external blockers or whatever.

Step by step with ABE for FF[1]. The actual words might be different, I have to translate to english on the fly as I have no idea how to change the language.

#1 Rightclick on picture in question.
#2 click "Adblock Edge: block picture..."
#3 a pop up window will appear, make sure you select the specific avatar, not all avatars. There are several bullet points, I should be the top one. This will change the textfield at the top which should look similar to this (different picture of course):
Code:
||bitcointalk.org/useravatars/avatar_358121.png
#4 click "add filter"
#5 refresh if needed.

Most people probably won't ignore them but you can already turn them off in your settings. If people do turn them off en mass though there obviously wont be much point in signature advertising.

I like hilariousandco's idea, some user already started ignoring another user just because of their avatar. kinda silly if you ask me.

i don't know if everyone start to ignoring signature, then what is the point of carrying one for advertising? i know sign are annoying for many but the point still stand

not all people ignore them.
I don't ignore signature or avatar, mainly because I don't give a damn as long as they don't start moving with your screen like some stupid ad.

I agree to this suggestion to ignore or turn off avatars/signature but only if new rank is added to this forum. It will be a benefit like option for higher ranks. But for lower ranks there will be no option to turn it off

??? :o A few weeks ago scores of people called for avatars to be restored, now scores of people called for a tool to ignore avatars.
I'm starting to think that admins need to revert to March, 31 forum then permanently disable all avatars.

Not every avatars and signatures; a few avatars and/or signatures are irritating.

Exactly, in the forum should be also the option (the possibility) to hide an avatar. The same thing also for the signature, why someone should ignore or hide all the signatures because there aren't a few one that he doesn't like (or normally he doesn't want to see).
