Diversion is used for thousand of years in politics and warfare. just today it is much more sophisticated and mainly in the digital world. You might want to google the phrase "conspirancy theorist" and where it comes from. Maybe if we call everything that doesn't conform to our narrow minded view of life 'conspiracy' or 'paranoia', we don't actually have to listen to anything we don't like, much less reality.
