Title: Bitcoin Foundation Divided Over Controversial Restructuring Proposal
Post by: Coinbuddy on April 07, 2015, 04:46:50 AM
Less than six months after the Bitcoin Foundation announced its intention to focus solely on core development, it is once again at a financial and existential crossroads that finds the future of the trade organization shrouded in uncertainty.

Though much about the situation remains obscured by argument, current board members, core developers and the group’s interim executive director Patrick Murck agree that, at the very least, the Bitcoin Foundation will no longer be best positioned to continue financing bitcoin development in current form.

Why does this not surprise me at all?
This matter was more discussed on the forums in the past, than in recent times.

This was very well said. This is something that many have said in the past. Although the former argument was that someone was needed to finance the developers. They've even failed at doing that.

IMO they should just end the Foundation. It seems that they have very little money left and their reputation is (justifiably or not) trashed. Why even go to the trouble of rebuilding it?

They accomplished quite a bit over the years. They paid Gavin and several other developers, they funded bitcoin.org, they produced some good lobbying results, etc. The people who worked toward these good results shouldn't feel ashamed to "call it a day" now. I was an annual member for the first two years of the Foundation (currently I'm not a member), and I'm not particularly disappointed in how my money was apparently used.

The thing is... People who do not know what Bitcoin is, want some sort of Foundation or organization to validate it's legitamacy. {Will you buy a car, if you do not know who manufactured / developed it?}

The Foundation provided that function to a degree...

The secrecy regarding Bitcoin's origin {Satoshi} is not helping people to put a face to it's legitimacy.

These days a Alt coin with known developers and traceable origin will have more acceptance than Bitcoin by the general public. {They need a face}  ;)

Finally, this organisation (that's a stretch to say) is coming to it's end.

Good.

This was previously known and suggested. The Foundation won't do good in the future.
The question is who is going to fund the developers now? If we find a solution to that, the foundation can safely disband. It has done good in the past, but there was a lot of drama and such.

If their utility is past, then let it restructure, dissolve whatever.

at such time as there is again a need something will take it's place.

I see the need for such an organization and at the same time see that in it's present form it is somewhat of an abomination.

how to centralize anything without people losing their minds and getting greedy and power hungry.  I don't have the answer to that one, and I doubt anyone does..
