Title: Statements that precede bitcoin poverty
Post by: RodeoX on April 08, 2015, 03:49:20 PM
I thought it would be fun to add your "famous last words" in the bitcoin economy. Perhaps it will also help out a newbie who is considering the various options for bitcoin use. Here are my examples of...

~Statements the precede bitcoin poverty~

"I just found a website that can double my bitcoins!"

".... PayPal .... loan"

Surely someone here is funnier than that. Your turn.

"Wow, someone just transferred BTC 51.28 to my blockchain.info (or insert other online wallet provider) account. I better check it out by following this link in my email!"

"Using strong passwords, and opting into 2-Factor authentication programs will just slow me down."

"I am converting any Bitcoin I can get to _____coin. _____coin is way superior to Bitcoin in every existing way, It is exactly like Bitcoin in everyway but _____coin has one small difference when compared to Bitcoin this clearly makes it better."

"Look, bitcoin tanked from 1200 to 800 so fast, this MUST be the buy time, there's no WAY it'll go any lower than that!"

&

"Bitcoin just hit 150, this is the peak for sure! It's only worth $100 per btc max, I'm selling all my coins!"

"My bitcoins are safe and sound inside an online wallet."

I know this hurts, but... is related: "MtGox is the largest btc exchange, there's no safer place to keep'em!"

This goes for each and every existing exchange :)

No, collateral? a Newbie? Eh, whatever its only ...

I will just export my private key and send it via <insert unencrypted channel here>.

A backup? I dont need that.

Martingale is the best strategie I will never lose 20 times in a row.

I think I should invest my coins in this new casino, that has been around for a week.

Sure, you can pay later.

Wait for one confirmation? Aint nobody got time for that.

Anything like "I just lent this guy some BTC. I trust him and I'll respond here when I get my money plus a load of profit back in a few days". As an example here's one person who trusted pirateat40.

The Business:
Over the last few months I have been selling BTC to a group of local people.  Now this is a don't ask don't tell group of people so I can't tell you exactly where and to whom the coins ultimately end up with but so far its been pretty painless.   During this last week I maxed out my available coins both personally and "leased" from other members and they needed a lot more.  Up until now, I have dealt with my core group of friends and been able to handle the requests, but they seem to be getting larger and more frequent.  So now I'm looking into other methods for keeping a consistent storage or on-demand availability of coins.  I have two plans available for those sitting on coins.

On-Demand
When an order comes in that is over what I have available I'll send out a request to users in this plan requesting the total needed.  The first to respond gets the deal and the transfer is made.  These coins will be tide up for 1 business day to give me enough time to settle the transaction and acquire the coins to return. This plan pays a flat 3.5%.

Storage
This plan works as an ongoing commitment.  You would send coins anytime to the address provided and you would earn interest on a daily basis.  You can withdraw your balance at anytime, but I do request that you give me a couple hours to insure I have coverage for the next order.  Interest payments are paid out ever 3 days until either you withdraw the funds or my local dealings dry up and I can no longer be profitable. This plan pays 1% per day.

Now I would hope to have enough people on the storage plan that I wouldn't have a need for the on-demand but I'll see how it goes.  I ultimately want the ability to provide coins at anytime and any amount for these guys and we can all share in the profits.

I've created my own custom management software that I've built to monitor deposits, withdraws and interest payments.  As this gets bigger I'll build a front end for it so users can view and manage there account and maybe putting that domain btclending.com to good use.

For more information send me a PM or just ask below.  You can check out my OTC ratings in my signature.

Edit: I forgot to mention that dealing with anything less than 50BTC is more work than its worth so I've made that the minimum on both plans.

Thanks
I just lent this guy some BTC. I trust him and I'll respond here when I get my first interest payment in 3 days.  :)

Btc-E is pretty truth worthy, I would not use it for huge amounts of storage unless I'm trading.

It would be a pretty good hot wallet though.

1. Ok, So I invest $100 in this cloud mining service {insert CEX.IO} and if all calculations is correct, I will ROI in 12 months. {This acctually makes sense to some people, to wait for 12 months to ROI}

2. This Bitcoin gambling site, says "Provably Fair" .... I can trust them MORE than the rest.

3. To see proofs of payments scroll down ..... {So NO proof of payment can be faked?}

These are just some of the dumb things we believe and then we get burned.  >:(  ..... It sux to pay school fees, and to be a noobie in a Bitcoin minefield.

"My bitcoins are safe and sound inside an online wallet."
People who do this should be punished,

No they shouldn't. If they are it's poor security and/or bad luck.

This currency is designed to interface with the fucking internet. Keeping it in your fucking brain or on a piece of paper is absurd to most people. (Though obviously it's what I do, along with every other old skool bitcoiner) but give people a chance to learn the true implication of having no central authority to turn to when coins you legitimately (or not) acquired are taken from you without your consent!

As far as keeping coins in gox though....that was fucking stupid. I don't have much sympathy for anyone that did that. They had over a year of shoddy occurrences to alert them to the precariousness of that dependency.

Oh and by the way my statement....

"I'll just pay for this too-good-to-be-true bitcoin miner pre-order using BTC itself! Cos...yeah!"

optional extra: "The miner only cost me 8.6 BTC! It should hopefully arrive within the year and difficulty shouldn't go up that much!"

Cloud mining with a new company that promises me 500% ROI, this sounds too good, it MUST be true.

<Insert name here> is a trusted member of this forum and he wouldn't ruin that for a few BTC, he will pay back my collateral free loan.
