Title: Buying aircraft for BTC
Post by: TTBit on May 27, 2011, 05:41:36 PM
Open offer: 10,000 BTC for http://www.cessna.com/single-engine/skycatcher.html

Currently about 115,00 USD each. I would like a *brand new* one (less than 50 hours) delivered to any airport of my choice in the USA.

If you're looking to put serious money into bitcoin, but don't want to move the market, this is an option.

Did you already try to talk to one of their sales managers about accepting Bitcoin?

While looking up models, I found my Uncle and Aunt's plane registrations. I didn't know anyone could search and see what planes they have registered in their name!

You didn't happen to sell a pizza in an earlier life, did you?

Ha. I'm sure 10k bitcoins will buy planes, castles and small islands in the near future. I'll settle for a small plane.

I have a red paperclip if someone would like to trade.

Isn't 10k BTC kind of a bit low for a plane worth $115k USD.
10k BTC are worth about $85k USD at todays rate, why would an investor pay $115k for something only worth $85k, and even less if he tried to actually sell it.

A buyer wanting to spend that much USD would push the price up, thus making his investment worth more.
For you to sell 10k BTC you would push the price down thus getting even less then $85k for them.
I think a more reasonable/fair price is more like 15k+ BTC.

It was more of a joke than a serious offer, I'm sure.  Search the forum for the 10K BTC pizza.

The pushing up happens as he buys, not after.

I was considering financing most of one of those planes just to invest into Bitcoins. Pay it off in cash and count it as an investment! ;D

I hope, if this transaction is successful, that you consent to talk to the press about it. It could easily make national news!

I am serious.

It is a standing offer that I anticipate would not go through until coins get closer to $13 - $15. At that point, it should make sense for group of investors to put the cash together.

I will create a new bitcoin address, post here and deposit the 10k upon request to verify funds.

I'd pay off most of my mortgage if I had that many BTC.  Hopefully a year from now it may be a possibility.

Didn't want to bump, but a deal is being worked out for less coins and older aircraft. Thanks for the interest.

You used to be able to buy a car for 500 USD. Today that would get you a mediocre bike. Now that's what I call a sound currency.

Just three years ago, I paid $510 for a brand new alluminum alloy Trek 700.  Now they run about, what, $800 for the same bike?

Son, I bought a cup of coffee back in 1947 for 5 cents.

Money meant something back in the day. Now you get to pay 4 damn bucks. Where's my back medication.
