Title: New Bitmain Products? S4+ and S7?
Post by: Evan on April 11, 2015, 03:08:28 PM
I was told they would be announcing them shortly, a few weeks ago, why are they not out yet? Do you think they are waiting to sell out of S5s and S3+?

@Bitmain - Please let us know I'd like to get in line to pick up a few of each.

It's all speculation.  As far as I know Bitmain has not made a announcement.

But if you read forums people say they know they are being released.    So far most/all have been wrong on timeframe.

With BTC price I don't see a huge rush from any companies on next gen.   I think they will go a little slower and more efficient with money.

if the bitcoin prices continue at this rate there wont be many left to purchase miners accept those actually wanting to secure the network... Maybe Bitmain releasid that lol :P

I emailed Bitmain support last week asking about coupons and they told me an S4+ will be announced soon.  That was the same reply I got when inquiring about the S2 kits.  So presumably they will be released together and no S6 for now, it would be too much to launch at once.  The 2 week speculation of them announcing this was based on other threads where they stated it was in R&D and were awaiting info from their team if it was a go for release.  They have stated the goal was the end of March.  I believe they just are trying to get rid of S5's at this point, hopefully R&D didn't run into a problem.

i remember a guy(who created a thread about those miners) said a couple of months, two weeks ago... but don't be too in a hurry for them, they are just about 1.5 time(1.45 precisely) more efficient than a s5 antminer, nothing so special, they won't change the current mining situation for sure

found it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1003216.0

this is the entire key to mining. Hash power  per watt improvements are not that big anymore.

350 watts to 1gh = gpu

10 watts to 1 gh = early asics

7 watts to 1gh

2 watts to 1 gh = s-1

.8 watts to 1 gh = s-3

.5 watts to 1gh = s-5

the s-4+ and or s-6  will be .35 or maybe .4 watts per gh

if they continue to use the same productive process(28nm), they will not go too far, next asic will have a pointless efficiency, they should already come up with 22nm or even better(16), otherwise the miners industry will stuck at current efficiency ratio(maybe a good thing for casual miner)

If I owned bitmaintech I would not rush to the next chip.

If I owned bitmaintech I'd stop releasing miners until I had fixed the broken ones sold to clients.

what a good joke!

there is no pressure to release anything new!
knc is nowhere, bitfury is b2b, sptech is out for few months, sfarts who knows!

s4+ does not sound right maybe s5+
s7? and where is s6 gone to the moon?

Bitmain has zero pressure to do anything besides maximize their return on their current S5 miner. They have zero serious competition at the moment, and seem to be able to produce and sell S5's "from stock". While they don't infinite pricing power, they can even tinker with prices enough to maximize their total income from the S5 product. They are only going to make N (pick your value for N) S5's, hence they want to maximize N*Price, don't they? If in a few months if they still have some S5's, they can have a "fire sale, an S5 for $250 quantity one".

While the Avalon box is nice, it's price is still well above Bitmain's price for the S5.

I am sure the S4+, S6, S7 are already built but at the moment they are making too much money with the S5. There is no reason what so ever to release anything new.

How are you sure of this?  3 Products sound like a heck of a lot to sit on.

Do you have specs? Or other info?

at this stage production cost is a huge factor. IIRC the SP20 cost spondoolies >$400 to build, and even as a very stripped-down design, the S5 probably still costs bitmain $300/unit or so to produce.

As long as bitcoin price stays between $220-280/BTC, difficulty will stagnate as any new gear simply offset 1w/GH stuff going offline. But if BTC goes to something like $400, these units will start selling like crazy and difficulty could quickly spiral upwards. Its likely the reason why larger farms are selling coins rather than holding them

You are forgetting that a miner in Israel can cost much more to build then a miner in China.

S5 could cost as low as $50 to build as long as they order the parts in massive quantities.

Again who the hell came up with an S7?  I will confirm their tech support relayed to me that the announcement of the S4+ to be soon as of last week.  So in theory it will launch with the S2 upgrade kits.  Can't find any info on the S4+ specs but there are previously discussed hopeful specs on the S2 upgrade.  Several weeks ago they were openly discussing this on the forums and then nothing, no posts what so ever.

You were told wrong. I do no expect S6 till mid summer. Look at BTC price, who s gonna invest milions into development and sale of something which s not in demand. You said it yourself, they cant sell out these older miner ATM.

I was tolD VIA Facebook from bitmain:

When will S6 or C2 come out? I want to get more TH but I wont buy S5/C1 since they are end of production
BITMAIN: March 23rd, 12:01am
Hi Evan, in about two weeks we will be releasing an upgraded version of the S4, called the S4+, which has the same size/design specs as the original S4 but uses our newer generation of chips, for a higher hashrate and better power efficiency. We are actually skipping the S6 model number, and the new S7 model should be available in June or July of this year. Hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions.

Why didn't they call it the S6 then if it has new chips?

The S3 and S3+ have both the same chips.

The sooner the better is the way I see it!!! Too much
hype has been built up on this one. I just hope it's not
a mega system that takes a small power plant to run it.

They have been pretty consistent on making miners a 110 can run.  So I doubt they break this as far as power usage.

Really with  price of BTC down a little extra mining time with current gen is not a bad thing.

I really don't theink the S3++ had different chips, in terms of design, compared to the S3. They were no doubt better, and clearly the S3 got a rough start, but the chip design is virtually identical. Maybe somebody more in the know could comment, but the S3++ more like a "fixed S3", than a V8 version compared to the V6 version to use the car analogy. Once the S3++ was out, there were no more S3's available, except on the used market.

I don't know if we ever really saw much on the S3++.  Was it just bulk in China sold?  I could be wrong on that but I was thinking it was not offered to all.

If you look at S5 they designed to ship, with plastic and not full metal like S3.   I think it's likely S7 will continue that trend.  But as far as timeline I have no idea.

On S4+ there seems to be so many different stories on this forum, I don't know what to believe.
