Title: Why does Armory need TWO copies of the blockchain?
Post by: Jace on April 13, 2015, 09:16:56 AM
If I understand correctly, Armory runs on top of (or along with, or requires) Bitcoin Core, and besides the full blockchain data of Bitcoin Core, Armory also needs its own copy of the blockchain.

Unless I'm terribly mistaken here, I wonder: why is this? With the blockchain getting bigger and bigger, this is quite a disadvantage. Yes, disk space is cheap, but wasting 35 GB seems kinda harsh.

A new version will get rid of this, depends when they release it. So the short answer is no, and the longer answer is, when the new version with new database design is available. (the even longer version is that the Armory database is the same data as the blockchain but recorded in a different way...)
