Post by: cryptworld on April 13, 2015, 10:05:06 AM

"It seems likely that the increased flexibility and exclusive focus on online payments could result in PayPal taking a more active role in the Bitcoin ecosystem."

Until I actually see a solid statement from them saying they are going to accept bitcoin or actually see them with my own eyes accepting bitcoin I'm not going to believe it until I actually see it happening. Seems they've been saying this sort of stuff for a while but is always ambiguous and no definite or concrete plans. Take that freaky paypal advert that mentioned bitcoin ages ago.

Isn't this like a wild rumor?

Paypal is one of the most accepted means of payment in the world, if you can pay with bitcoin in almost every ecommerce, yes, this is a huge advantage for bitcoin and its users

you can see here the SEC filing and you search for the word 'Bitcoin' and see that they are talking about bitcoin in an official document

Paypal is just a payment processor just like bitpay and coinbase etc which also charge fees and probably protect the consumer as well in case of a dispute. If we could use paypal as a bitcoin processor and can spend bitcoin any place that accepts paypal then that would be massive and huge news for bitcoin. I'm a skeptic as to whether they will become a btc payment processor, though.

I thought it would be nice to put up the link from official eBay blog and not from Bitcoin magazine:

http://blog.ebay.com/ebay-inc-separate-ebay-paypal-independent-publicly-traded-companies-2015/
https://separation.ebayinc.com/

I see no mention of Bitcoin - not in headline nor in the blog post. Bitcoin Magazine added "Bitcoin" to the headline to make it sensational.

Whether or not is it mentioned, but it's definitely an opportunity for Bitcoin to get involved into the real world quickly... ;)

How will charge back be possible with bitcoin? Wont you just take the bitcoin and take it away from the reach of paypal so they cannot touch it again and cannot push you for a chargeback?

One thing good that if bitcoins are recognized by PP, they won't freeze my account if I send and receive payments but PayPal should first change their chargeback policy and make it safe for buyers and sellers and then bitcoins could be worth trading via PayPal. Ebay is just useless when it comes to trading digital goods. They charge fee even when the product is not sold.  :-X

Also, braintree has a withdrawal option to banks but I guess only US banks as it is using coinbase.

it's only good for adoption in the end nothing else

Well the payment processor will just refund the coins or money and foot the bill until they can recoup the money from the recipients account just like they do with PayPal disputes.

What caught my attention is this:
"zero transaction fees on the first $1 million in bitcoin sales and a 1 percent fee for cashing out bitcoin to a bank account"
I wonder why certain businesses are still very reluctant to provide bitcoin payment options. It's a good opportunity to test out the water and get things rolling.

the same way it is possible when the recipient has already withdrawn its fiat to his bank account, and they still do the chargeback setting in red numbers your paypal account getting a doubt with them

Well, it doesnt stop people using paypal all the time. I myself use it for ebay and basically everywhere.
I would buy with BTC over ebay if I could, directly without paypal. But if paypal allows ebay use (since ebay for now hasn't said anything on getting BTC accepted) I would still use it.

Ebay charge fee with physical goods if the product doesnt turn up and you cant prove you posted it.  You also have listing fees and paypal fees.  Its not a great system overall, i dont think its terrible but we need openbazaar.

It is my impression that eBay and PayPal separate to at least save the auction business by avoiding negative spillover effects of a dying PayPal. ;)

I don't share the opinion of some people here that painpal's Bitcoin acceptance is favorable news. For two reasons: First, painpal is obsolete, because Bitcoin is a superior paradigm. Second, when painpal accepts Bitcoin, it will only do so at it's own business conditions which will eliminate all of Bitcoin's advantages.

For Bitcoin to succeed we don't need a dying old school fiat money processor that claims excessive fees and blocks funds at will.

Actually I think that eBay accepting/facilitating Bitcoin use would be better news than painpal acceptance, because in that case some real economic activity would be involved.

ya.ya.yo!

In theory yes. But PayPal is not free service. They will find a way to make bitcoin payments 'safer and more secure' (utter marketing bullshit, I know but for general public it will matter) but while doing so they declare that their 'new and improved' bitcoin processing system need a little money to be kept alive and running. In other words, they will add special fees for every paypal bitcoin transaction. On top of that I expect them to exchange bitcoin to USD or EUR with really not that favorable rate.

If someday paypal really accept bitcoin that a verry good news for bitcoin , because maybe that will boost a price of bitcoin up to 500-600$.  ;D
Just my opinion  ;D

As you can see that is not happening. Bitcoin price is still fixed around $220-$230 since 2 weeks or so. After reading this article I am not sure if that is something really worth mentioning and promoting... Because from what I could understand I still can't buy anything for bitcoin from - say Steam or Amazon...

I hope they integrate a bitcoin wallet to each paypal account, that would be a good advertisment. I hope it's not just like microsoft  and dell "accept" bitcoin, they just use payment proccesors liek bitpay and coinbase to get the $ our of the bitcoin.
