No one can give an accurate number. I estimate full time jobs created it is in the thousands and part time freelance jobs are in tens of thousands.

250,000 jobs? What are they smoking? That's probably more than there are active and regular users of Bitcoin itself. Even the biggest and bloatiest crypto companies like Coinbase can't be employing more a than a few tens, or maybe hundreds, of people.

250k jobs seems to be too much IMO. I would probably say it's around 10-20k jobs created in the bitcoin/crypto currency field. More jobs will be created in the future once bitcoin gets more popular.

I think I saw a job posting for JP Morgan where they were hiring one crypto person. If a giant bank is only bringing on one person, I wonder how many new jobs there could possibly be?

actually i think it would make sense if you include every little job(not just big one), and if we consider that there are more than 2.5M people that own bitcoin, we end up with 10% of those working on those jobs

although I'm not 100% sure if it's fake or not

Curious ... I write for a bitcoin website and I get paid in bitcoin. Does that mean that bitcoin created a job for me? What if it's just freelance and I already have a full time job? Interesting conversations.

on the flipside, soon as price hits sub $100 ... most of those jobs will be history. The Bitcoin ecosystem is gonna shrink to nearly nothing.

That's actually a very fair point. I wrote for Inside Bitcoins and they had to cut the editorial budget because the price had dropped to a point that many people were just not going to the conferences like they had used to. Though it could be argued that many of the applications being built are not impacted too much by the price; it's just us long-term holders.

I just finished a small gig the other day...see thread here; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1016939.0

Honestly if the price dropped to 100USD I'd do the gig all over. But at 50USD I'd have to have an expense account.

More bitcoin companies will be built in the future and that's mean more bitcoin related jobs. It's just a matter of time until you see "bitcoin specialist" in job category section of job networks like elance or odesk.

Companies like Xapo are creating new services: basically banks for Bitcoin. All their security measures will need for new jobs to take care of people's Bitcoins.

The real question is how many jobs with bitcoin eliminate.  The financial sector stands to lose a large percentage if/when bitcoin goes more mainstream.  Here's to hoping for that day.

Not many if things keep going the way they are for Bitcoin. Lower prices, scam after scam after scam.... whos gonna trust that shit?
The ratio of scams to actual good commerce in Bitcoinland compared to fiatland is hilarious.

that would be hard to tell because theres no data surronding this but what I can tell you is when microsoft and other big companies decided to accept bitcoin they had to employ people who are used to the system and know how to use it.

What a stupid ass article.. And 3,500,000 jobs were created in 2014. Bitcoin 20k jobs? Id like to know how many coinbase employes I feel they probably have the most, or bitpay. If I were to guess... 5k jobs is to many.

If you also think about it, there have been a lot more jobs than we can imagine.
Jobs within ISIS, for someone to help them, with their ransoms, and setting up bitcoin storages etc. There are a lot of other jobs as well/ Conferences/Silk road cases/etc which are directly a result of bitcoin. So there is no way to estimate it.

There is not and I suppose won't be an estimated number of jobs bitcoin created. It is just too hard to count accurately or even approximately. I know, however that bitcoin indeed created some opportunities for people and give them jobs. While it is hard to link directly bitcoin with number of jobs created as now I think it is more that people are imagining. As for the future when bitcoin will be even stronger that number will increase.

Bitcoin created not many jobs, but created thousands of projects like programming, hosting, mining, advertising.

number of jobs created is a tricky number. If a governor decides that the local government hires 10 people to go and smash windows every night, 10 jobs are created. And then people have to hire people to put new windows, "creating" even more jobs. And more tax would also be paid.

People putting their time and money into bitcoin and claiming that this is creating new jobs is basically a broken window fallacy until the bitcoin technologyh starts to give real benefits to its users.

What creates jobs is basically to create an environment where it's profitable to hire the kind of people that have a hard time finding a job in the current job market. I doubt bitcoin does this because people involved in bitcoin could easily work with other things.

In theory bitcoin definitely has the potential to do this though. Fast and easy cross border payments is just one example.

How many Bitcoin exchanges have been created? There are some really big companies like CoinBase / Circle / BitPay / etc... that would not have been here, without Bitcoin.

Then we have Crypto programmers and developers and we have faucet owners and bitcoin gambling sites dedicated to Bitcoin.

We also have Bitcoin farms and solo miners, when it was still viable.... {not included... Alt coins}

This is a very big scene now... and a lot of people are depending on it as a only income. We do not even talk about the individuals, who receive income on a informal or adhoc basis.   :o

Gambling is not a job while there have been very few reliable exchange websites that have been created while the rest have disappeared. Some people have also managed to earn bitcoins and consider it as a part time job while programming, editing and so on.

Bitcoin will definitely help  build more jobs and careers in the future. You will probably see bitcoin engineering courses in colleges and universities soon,  bitcoin will create a new career in the job market. And the early adopters will be the lucky ones.

I don't think you can get the exact number without access to reliable information. But for a starter have anybody ever considered calculating number of members participating in signature campaigns in bitcointalk and those offering services in the services section? You can easily filter out the numbers. I mean for some that's part time job but I believe there are those into full time commitment.

Sad to say this... but IMO, Bitcoin took away many jobs and ruined the livelihoods of people than the other way around. Look at the Mt Gox robbery. Tens of thousands of people lost their life savings. At least some of that cash would have been used for investing in to new ventures, there by creating new jobs.

There arent any specific jobs that have to do with bitcoin. However some web developers have made very succesful projects. I think bitcoin mostly affects freelancers to make money online.
The only job I can think of are bitcoin developers, actually not a real job, but still.
I know people can earn money with bitcoin(exchanging), but is that a real job?

Yeah, seems a bit far fetched. We cannot accurately pinpoint the amount of jobs created tho. Have in mind now basically anyone can be an entrepreneur instantly (all it takes is creating a bitcoin address to receive the money for your job). There are tons of freelancers out there getting paid thanks to BTC.

Not sure how many jobs were created. But, I left my full time job to become full time bitcoiner.

That's nice.
I do have a couple of questions though:
How is that working for you?
And what do you mean a full time bitcoiner?

Everybody with even a few Satoshis is a bitcoiner but I doubt they think of it as a full time job.

look at coders, they are in great demand if their skill level is top notch. designers, writers, casino's, exchanges, etc. it's just the beginning. in potential you can build many things around bitcoin and that in return will create jobs.
