Title: the long hard stairway to heaven?
Post by: molecular on August 23, 2012, 06:57:00 PM
Probably everyone notices these 5000 BTC asks spaced evenly every 0.05 USD.

https://i.imgur.com/ZhOBN.png (http://imgur.com/ZhOBN)

couldn't find a thread about this...

What does everyone think what the intentions of the person/group doing this are?

I think it means that whoever was putting up those huge ask walls a few weeks ago is now a script kiddie

lol, except the script got lazy above 11 and increased the size and space... to may be manual after all ;)

The ask stairway is in the euro market as well.

Walls are too easily spotted so a staircase was built but it still acts like a wall.  Good try, manipulator.

Prevents price from rising. Someone with a lot of coins might be waiting on a wire...........

Assuming it is all the same person that is a lot of BTC to have sitting in a MtGox account!

Same wall on mtgox usd and mtgox eur.

Can it be the same coins, or does it mean there is 400 000 coins in the hand of one person? (who the hell could it be...)

If someone needs a large amount of coins, he's going to need to climb that.

For the true believers, stairs to the heaven is a gift (bitcoin) God sent.  ;)

Wish I had a few million dollars on mtgox now :(

Is the stairway to heaven a permanent fixture, or only there at night? This could give us a clue to its maker's intentions

Can this stairway be fake ? Does it represent actual btc ? If I had 10.000 and placed multiple ask, which one would be shown on the wall ?

If this wall/stairway is real, then a rally seems difficult.
I suspect lots of USD sits on mtgox, waiting for an hypothetical sizeable drop in price secondary to a panic sell. What could cause this panic sell ? A large dump. If this dump is a speculation move (trying to bring the price down to buy low), it could be  risky for the one doing it, because lots of people are waiting for an opportunity to buy low too.
It could be a dump from people wanting out of the bitcoin wold for various reason. I doubt it, but feel free to correct me.

it's to intimidate the bulls and try to prevent a rally

Hell yes, 100k easily grabbable coins below $12
I figure it will not be to long before bullish people realize that a lot is available cheap and the others clue in that buying it up would prevent the dump they fear.

yeah, it would also be "pretty bullish" for bitcoin to rise on such humongeous volume and probably kick off a rally.

That would be unnecessary risk.

Time ticks in favour of the patient. Pirate has an additional 5000BTC debt per day currently. Most of us have no hurries and can wait to see whether he tries a dump-and-pump this weekend or not. The deadline for Vandroiy's bet is not far away.

IMHO, the Million Dollar Stairway to Heaven is the mysterious 100K transaction from:

1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM (https://blockchain.info/address/1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM?filter=1)

An address that has been shown to be carry an unusually strong pirate stink.

Disclaimer: IANA Bitcoin Forensic Crack

Stop obsessing about the completely stupid encoded message transactions.  :)

Let me return your attention to something interesting instead:

Uh oh, 100k BTC set in motion  ;D This is gonna be a long night ;)

https://blockchain.info/address/1E9k79dLuhfspdEtymzP7vhaYVGFcdfsYs

It seems likely to me that the Really scary 100K transaction of not-so-impending doom (https://blockchain.info/address/1E9k79dLuhfspdEtymzP7vhaYVGFcdfsYs) from August 19 was not sold,
but instead used to build the 100K BTC, Million Dollar Staircase we now see on Gox:

https://i.imgur.com/VLIH5.png

I have nothing to back this up, other than the fact that again, both the timing and the numbers seem to add up very nicely.

When did the Million Dollar Staircase first pop up?  How many BTCs was it originally built with? (Before the $10.20 spike damaged the lower steps.)

Does the Million Dollar Staircase belong to the owner of 1DkyBEKt5S2GDtv7aQw6rQepAvnsRyHoYM (http://blockchain.info/fb/1dkybe)?

PS: If BTCST investors want their Bitcoins back, why not purchase a step of the stairs?

Take back the Bitcoins that were taken from you. Right now they're just sitting there, uselessly.

No serious trader would show such a stairway if he really wanted to sell, so it is manipulation only. It will vanish as quickly as it appeared (and reoccur at later times). We have to wait on new large investors.

Yes, but my main point is: it don't want to sell

He will do it the way that his steps start far behind 10 USD. Only frightened people sell now, too late on low price after the last high, and that makes the pressure on BTC price.

It does not really matter. Perhaps it is bullshit. Perhaps it is testing other's behaviour. Perhaps it want to buy even more coins. I have the coins I need (at 10 USD), and buy even more on lower price.

Now, stupids, buy quick on this huge bid walls, that I can sell some coins at 12 USD.

No come back stairway to heaven.  You were reassuring me.  Now that you are gone obviously nobody wants bitcoins and they are worthless.  I should sell them at any price.  Hopefully there is someone out there who needs lots and lots of cheap coins.

"Sell 10,000 BTC at market.   Let me get whatever I can for these worthless coins.  $9, $8, hell even $5."

Nah.  I will just hang on to them Mr. Stairwell.  I got no debt and you got 5,000 BTC in interest piling up every day.

tick ... tick .. tick ...

Not necessarily for buying at 10 USD, but perhaps at 8 USD. My bid "wall" is on 8.66 USD, and I will not buy on higher rates (but sell a little bit).

At least the people that sold in front of this wall learned their lessen.

The close change between the elongated stairs and the vanish of it shows the experimental character, how to manipulate people best. In all investments you have to anticipate with bid and ask walls at any times, that for sure are from a beginner (rather seldom I think) or a manipulator. So build an investment strategy that resists it (and follow it of course).

It seems to me that it does create it's ask walls randomly now. So anybody may think that are different traders. Another nice strategy. Neat curve. Does not really matter.
