Title: Plz help a noob Post by: johny1980 on April 17, 2015, 11:25:02 AM Hello im a noob, I have downloaded Bitcoin-qt wallet and bootstrap.dat torrent. I have placed bootstrap.dat in %appdata$/Bitcoin. The wallet doesnt recognize the file.. what do ?

It's the latest update for Bitcoin and from what I have heard syncing on it is really fast.

There is no "Im using the file now", it just starts syncing. The wallet doesnt recognize the file.. what do ? hey johny, i advice you to let the client sync the blockchain by itself.. boosting the process isn't always a good option if you used unverified sources for the download of blockchain-data. bootstrap.dat btw allows your client to sync the initial blocks much faster (because from local storage...). but again, i prefer downloading the chain from the network and trusted random nodes. Note that the format is bootstrap.dat not bootstrap.dat.torrent. The recent upgrade to headers-first synchronizations has made this optional since it can now downloads simultaneously from all peers.

So you are implying that if I am in need of a $10 note and the shops only accept that, I should just get 10x $1 coins? It doesn't solve the problem if OP decides to use the features in bitcoin core. More importantly, Bitcoin Core offers much more security assurance and privacy over SPV clients.
