Title: GTA V PC first impressions
Post by: KonstantinosM on April 18, 2015, 09:35:51 PM
EDIT: I've played more of it and I'm having a lot of fun. The criticisms still stand, but it's a decent enough game.

Don't buy it.

It sucks.

Play vice city instead.

It's pretty. And pretty unplayable. Gameplay feels sluggish as fuck. Vehicles feel slow and under-powered. The big rig feels like it has a golf cart engine in it. Sports cars drive like minivans.

Franklin has a superpower that alters the laws of physics when he drives instantly and forever breaking immersion.

I don't know if it's a bad game but I'm playing other games instead of it. I'm avoiding it.

My 5 cents to save you the trouble and money.

Play before buying.

Also the soundtrack is worse than real-life radio.

GTA III, Vice City and SA have taste alteringly awesome music.

GTA V has such garbage that you instantly turn to talk radio which is decent (not as good as the previous games however).

The maps look pretty but feel uninspired compared to Vice City and San Andreas. Maybe after getting used to the map in V (which is unlikely as it is the first GTA game that feels like a chore instead of fun to me therefore I don't play it very much)

It is semi-enjoyable and that is perhaps because cars explode out of nowhere for some reason killing you. The damage they take seems insignificant (cosmetically), the physics feel shitty, the cars feel sluggish and like they are powered by engines of 1/10 the power that they should.

Semi-enjoyable is my weasel way of saying it's not fun.

I disagree with you on (almost) all points. I mean, the superpower part is pretty stupid and the radio music they added is quite bad, but everything is pretty well done. Cars, well, feel like cars. They slide horribly, just like real life cars and fast cars feel fast to me. I never had problems with randomly exploding cars nor have I had the feeling that physics are fucked, damage you receive or deal seems reasonable as well. Don't get me started on all the other amazing stuff they added, lip syncing, shitload of references, amazingly bad/wrong radio ads, stalking people will make them uncomfortable, etc.

Not sure which games you normally play KonstantinosM, but GTA V beats Vice City (which was my favorite GTA game) and makes my panties wet

You've played vice city. So tell me this. (about my soundtrack comments).

Really?

Also what about character development and story.

The end of Vice city makes me jizz in my pants. Tommy Vercetti is an awesome satirical asshole, and all fun. Lance is (spoiler alert) a backstabbing asshole because he feels he has been unfairly treated (which is hilarious).

Rosenberg's character was also very funny as well as countless others.

My first impressions thing still stands. Perhaps having not played the game enough I haven't learned to enjoy it. I remember I never had to do this for Vice City though.

I haven't played Single Player that much, but I like how the characters are as of right now (except the superpowers of course). Franklin and Michael are amazing together and don't get me started on Trevor/Lester. Could be a matter of taste of course.

I take it I am the only one here who did enjoy the music on the radio. It really wasn't that bad.  ::)

I've played all of them.

GTA SA beats everything- hands down.

I quite like the Radios on V, that's just my personal preference though. I'm not sure whether to get it on PC or on PS4. I feel I have more fun playing games on PS4. On PC I'm a lot more competitive- I play a lot of fps games. Since it's more of a mess around game I'll probably get it on PS4, however, that 4k screenshots I've seen made me jizz.

I'm enjoying this game so far and I expect new patches and drivers to be released over time that improve the performance.

I am a big pc game fan but I find all of the Grandtheft Auto games incredibly hard to play with mouse and keyboard.

Do you know have using the mouse while driving to shoot or look around?

I just end up lost and miss everything.

What platform?  PC?  Xbox?  PS4?  I am thinking of buying it but I am a PC gamer and I haven't heard good things...

I am a PC gamer and the only problem I had was that I had to disable my GPU to get the launcher working. They fixed this and everything runs smoothly now. Using your mouse can be hard in GTA V which is why I changed the settings to work better for me. The standard option for mouse input felt sluggish to me, but there are two other options and both of them satisfied my needs.

Everything depends on how good your computer is and if you feel like changing in game settings. If you aren't sure that it can handle GTA V or you are to lazy to deal with settings crap, buy the console version.

Sounds more like its a game genre that isnt for you.
Go play something else.

GTA V on PC is awesome, there is tweaks needed, but nothing too major.

I am enjoying it quite a lot.   The heist missions are very fun.   The characters are well developed, and the map is huge.

I played a little more. It's enjoyable but most of my criticisms still stand.

That being said, I love the story telling so far, It's definitely a good video game.

I can't get over how weak the cars feel. The engine noises are drowned out and the reflection system for some reason (in the mirrors sucks).

First person view is decent but I play third person mostly.

The speedometer bugs me, when I rev the engine at a stop it goes up to (20mph) while not in motion.

Also I've driven faster in my minivan than what sports cars go in this game. I don't understand how they fucked it up so badly. Perhaps they did that to sell vehicles, cash, upgrades in the future?

Despite all the shit. And there's plenty of it, it's still a good game.

You're telling me the genre isn't for me?

This elitist shit won't stand. I criticize it because of how much I loved all the previous GTA games. If I didn't give a fuck I wouldn't care to start a thread.

PC.

It's not worth the money unless you find it dirt cheap. There are plenty of things that fuck this game up.

The design and beauty of it are way overrated. It's made with fancier technology, but that doesn't necessarily make it much better.

The car physics suck all the fun out of the environment for me coupled with the shit soundtrack (the talk-radio channels still have good humor in them) it's even worse. It's a good game but it's not up to the previous GTA games (Vice City, San Andreas) in the fun factor.

The story is good so far. Nothing like Vice City or San Andreas. I haven't played enough to love the game, the world, the map or to review it properly but I'll say this.

Play it for a couple of hours to decide whether you want to buy it because at $60 dollars on PC (in my case) 2 years after release I feel like it's drawbacks don't warrant the price. I expected a well-balanced game for full price, instead they threw way to much money to make it look pretty, instead on the physics and responsiveness and fun-element of the gameplay.

It looks pretty and allows you to play with your friends. The music is also quite nice. What more could you possibly want want from a video game?  ;D

PC of course. It's great if you're a fan of the series. It keeps the spirit and the graphics are better than ever. The campaign has a lot of funny moments and original characters and the feature that allows you to switch between the characters is quite fun too. I can't speak for online play yet but my friends seem to be having fun.

And if you're worried about paying too much, get it from the Brazilian steam store. It's 100 Brazilian Reals which is about 33 dollars.

The fact that vehicles are sluggish is okay after getting to modify the shit out of them.

PC version is just out with higher res then previous versions.   I dont think theres anything much wrong with it but Im only going by what I seen on places like here:
http://www.twitch.tv/directory/game/Grand%20Theft%20Auto%20V

GTA is GTA, gets old after a while but I will buy this on the next sale probably and hopefully I'll have my graphics card back from rma by then though I heard it mostly requires a beefy CPU if anything, oh and 8 gigs of memory is good

A good CPU, GPU and a lot of RAM are indeed a must. My two year old laptop has a second generation i7, 6GB of RAM and a Nvidia GT 650m with 2GB dedicated RAM and I only get around 25 FPS with modified settings to reduce the workload. It's definitely playable and it still looks amazing so I ain't complaining, but it is something to keep in mind.

The optimization is not that perfect to be honest. It's a good port from all aspects, most of the time it doesn't even feel like a port to be honest. But I still run into lag spikes at random points and I have a decently powerful gaming computer. I saw many people reporting the same issue in the steam community.

My specs in case you care:
R9 290
8Gb Ram
Fx 8350

Thankfully the game has a good variety of graphic settings so many systems can handle it.

Well, the single player mode is nice and playing online is quite a bit of fun, so it should be good for a casual gamer. Just make sure you PC can handle it before buying the game.

Do you mean that you like this over a previous title or a previous version of itself.

In terms of whether it's better than previous GTA games I have to say that Vice City and San Andreas wipe the floor with GTA: V.
