Title: What are some movies you watched that changed the way you view the society? Post by: sana54210 on April 20, 2015, 02:32:28 PM Yesterday I watched a animation movie called " The grave of the fireflies" that changed the way I looked at the society and myself. It was nonetheless a great eye opener to me. It is a story about how humanity is supposed to be and shows how humanity can fail instead of always seeing how humanity truimphs in many other movies. Truly an astounding movie from a semi autobiography by Akiyuki Nosaka . I will suggest everyone to watch this movie that will change the way you think. This movie after seeing will resonate through you and touch the society in a a more humane way than we did before.

It was one week after the end of the war. At the countryside of Fukui prefecture where I was, it was the day the restrictions on lighting were removed. It must have been the 22nd. It was evening, and I was picking up my sister's bones. I was coming home in a daze when I saw the village lit up. There was nothing like my surprise then. My sister died in my side of the world, and the light was coming back in the other. Honestly speaking, there was also relief that she died and my burden was gone. No one would wake me up in the night like she did with her crying, and I wouldn't have to wander around with a child on my back any more. I'm very sorry to say this about my sister, but I did have those feelings too. That's why I haven't gone back to my novel (Grave of the Fireflies, published in 1967) to re-read it, since I hate that. It's so hypocritical. It must be absolutely true that Seita must have thought of his sister as a burden too. He must have thought that he could have escaped better if it weren't for her. There are many things that I just couldn't get myself to write into the story. During composition, the older brother got increasingly transformed into a better human being. I was trying to compensate for everything I couldn't do myself. I always thought I wanted to perform these generous acts in my head, but I couldn't do so. I always thought I wouldn't eat and would give the food to my little sister, but when I actually had the piece of food in my hand, I was hungry after all, so I'd eat it. And there was nothing like the deliciousness of eating in a situation like that. And the pain that followed was just as big. I'd think there is no one more hopeless in the world than me. I didn't put anything about this in the novel. Any other movie that you think will change the way we look at the society? It seems bland at first but you'll get plenty of perspective as it goes on.

I didn't really understand the concepts too well when I first saw it. It was more of a cool action movie to me. But the second time I watched it, years later, I was really impressed with it.
The mainstream being heavily conditioned to believe whatever the authority/governing body puts forth, vs the smaller group of more conscious/aware people that see through the illusion. Post by: Baghead on April 22, 2015, 04:03:01 PM THEY LIVE 1988 Just a few years after i was born and i have to agree when i watched and understood this a few years ago it did open my eyes to the major control that the shadow government have over us all from before that film to this day. Another film that changed the way i look at society is a film called 'eyes wide shut' secret society doing some weird and wonderful things. There are some great minds who try to wake people up threw the movie because the movies are partly where people are put to sleep. These films never make it big though for obvious reasons. Some Hindi movies are great. Slumdog Millionaire, Fire, Water, are examples. Brazilian movie called "Central Station" stuck in my mind. The film opened my eyes, that in our society nothing has changed in the last 200 years, and that the capitalists continue to exploit ordinary workers, that the rich are becoming richer and the poor getting poorer, with no hope of ever changing. It is fascinating that most of their works are based around World war 2 , I think the war should have impacted his life a lot, and he had to convey his message to the world. It humanised the people who are infected, it also showed the way that people act to and around gay people well. I haven't known anyone with HIV/AIDS, so can't say exactly how I would act around them, but I guess the film has made me see that they aremn't to blame and should be treated the same as someone with Cancer really. The last movie which i saw was Jai Ho which clearly tells to help 3 person around you and ask them to help someone 3 person and keeps on multiplying. Even after 34 years, this film still speaks volumes about our current culture, which many ideals are ringing true today. The younger generations are out of control due to lack of parental control, junk culture is becoming commonplace, violence is desensitizing the masses, and we all seem to be enjoying the ride on the way down. Among Bollywood movies, Slumdog Millionaire and PK were good as it changed my view towards humanity and religion. PK tells us that there is only one religion and that's humanity. The creator is only one and he treats all humans equally while it is humans who differentiate between one another. The story basically revolves around the children and their parents. How their children changes their attitude and behavior once they are married and become puppet to their wives with no respect for their parents..Its a must watch movie friends.

Infact some Hindi Movies I have seen were really great For eg. 3 Idiots and Lage Raho Munnabhai these two movies i can say the best till date when it comes to Hindi movies.

I love Grave of Fireflies, but its that kind of movie, you just dont want to see again. Movies like Limitless or Fight Club are pretty inspirational, if you are underarchiever in your twenties, but dont have much to offer, if you are outside of this group. Brazil is pretty much the only worthy movie adaptation of Orwells 1984 (despite claiming not to be one). Great, great movie. Untypically, I really liked HK "City hero" movie about training and exploit of HK swat team. Made me really appreciate the hard work these young men do, to protect society.
