The $5 million USD amount maybe a precedence but not the scam. It's not like we haven't seen this all before. And we will see it again, guaranteed. You know what they say about fools and their money? Maybe... a lot of people continue to lose money to similar looking schemes with traditional currencies (but they have law backing them to help them get back 5% of their original investments).
