I doubt that it's the most popular algorithm, but sha256 seems to be making a comeback.

If you measure popularity by total hashrate, scrypt is still the most popular algorithm for an alt.

I would say SHA256 is making a reasonable comeback after all the stupid trends of "let's pick some exotic algo to make our coin more interesting than BTC phase. Scrypt is still strong and popular because of how easy to mine it is.

With bitcoin out of list, I think scrypt is the most popular altcoin
