Title: How much data does your car track?
Post by: Soros Shorts on April 24, 2015, 11:01:28 PM
I took my car in for a scheduled service and without me asking the dealer apparently gave the car a software update. The software that runs the navigation, radio, driver assist, cameras and what not now behaves differently. It seems a lot smarter than before and I am somewhat concerned that it might be tracking and reporting my movements to some central database. It is a fairly new car with a lot of electronic gizmo and I am in the US. It seems to be connected to some network because I do get live traffic updates that enables the GPS to bypass traffic jams.

Does anybody here know exactly how much data a car tracks - say those equipped with OnStar or ConnectedDrive? I am guessing that this forum might have a number of privacy conscious readers who might know the answer.
