800 BTC hardly seems enough for an exit scam. Localbitcoins has been going for years, sounds like a legit tech issue, or at worst a hack, but exit scam no way doesn't make sense.

The 802 Bitcoins is just their hot wallet. They may have a cold wallet with addresses that aren't well known.

It's bold and all but does not seem like a 'finisher' plan. Someone got taken to the hilt so it is a cause for concern. 800btc equals go ahead and name it at this point.

Let's hope it is in-fact a bug or something. What's concerning is that the support has not yet posted anything about it, not on that thread or on twitter.

People at localbitcoins are posting "scam confirmed". Pretty sure they are just shorters talking their book.

Error Sending Out Bitcoins

Our apologies. The developers are working on it – and while we do not have an ETA – please be assured that balances are safe and we'll do our best to get this fixed ASAP.

Sorry for any inconvenience this is causing users

Only problem with that is that the hot wallet was emptied yesterday: https://blockchain.info/tx/aaa64e2f1730fbf400df9cca30efbabf8b1dc437a6b00e516edefe4eb7bcc4f1

287 confirmations already.

Edit: By yesterday I mean on 4/24/15.

Did they go to one (known) address? Are they still there?

The bulk of their hot wallet coins went to a single address on 4/24/15 and they are still there. They still have about 50 bitcoins in their normal hot wallet addresses, not sure how that plays a role.

They usually reuse the same internal addresses all the time, but the address the 800+ BTC went to is new.

Were you able to actually send bitcoins out of localbitcoins? From what I can see if they are actually sending they aren't using their usual hot wallet. Do you have the address they sent from?

I highly doubt Local Bitcoins would bother to perform exit scam of just 800 BTC  ;D Actually, I think they are one of the most trustworthy companies out there.

800BTC for a scam?
That's like robbing a bank for the candy and pens, not a whole lot in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure it's a tech issue and will be resolved. Shorters are just talking their book like usual spreading bs to get their orders filled. Bitcoin is still fine and dandy.

is this that caused the today small dump? even a small amount like that can start a chain of panic, that can cause a massive dump, don't underestimate it

these little scams remind me of the small thief that steals people's money on the street, fiat isn't any different, is actually worse than bitcoin, when we talk about being robbed...

I don't think they have not scammed .... maybe they have only transferred the bitcoin to another address (only for a security purpose).

It's funny how media reports talk about CEOs of Bitcoin, sometimes they say the CEO of Bitcoin is Satoshi, other times they say it was the person that commited suicide, whats next, Winklevii as the CEOs of BTC?

No. What is the best LocalBitcoins alternative ? Move over there...

www.100bit.co.in is the best alternative IMO.

Key Features :-

1. Does not require bitcoin to stay deposited in the site. User deposits at the time of trading.

2. Bitcoin can be traded against both FIAT & Alt coins.

3. Trading cost 0.1% of the trade amount.

Downside: Low volume as it is new.

I have read the thread and I only wanted to say my personal opinion (and reply to those users). If you don't want to see my signature, use the grue's script (you can find it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1003570.0) or maybe better, use the ignore function. Have a great day.

Why anyone thinks that an entity like Localbitcoins would exit scam is just fucking ridiculous.

They earn 1% on every transaction and they have proven themselves secure over the years (despite a lot of downtime). They'd have to be completely braindead to cut and run, they have the perfect bitcoin-only business without any regulatory burden!
