Title: Help for people affected by Nepal earthquake
Post by: Bitcoinero_GB on April 28, 2015, 10:47:51 AM
Hello bitcoiners,

The GanaBitcoins crew are organising a collect of Bitcoin and altcoins (dogecoin at this moment) from people who want to donate it. We are going to joint all together and send to the Red Cross.

We usually write in Spanish , here you have the link for helping Nepal (http://www.ganabitcoins.com/ayuda-para-el-terremoto-de-nepal-con-bitcoin/).

Donation adresses are public and showed in the web, so anyone can see I'm not stealing noone! 100% of donations will go to the Red Cross, of course.

So if you have any question or suggestions... I'm here to hear :D

That doesn't mean anything.
I just wonder how you will make BTC become fiat and how you will send it.
Will you post a "receipt" from the red cross after the donation?

just a question.

Hey OP thanks for your offer. If I want to, I'll donate directly to Red Cross.

There's already organisations such as http://dec.org.uk (http://www.dec.org.uk/?gclid=CjwKEAjw3_ypBRCwoKqKw5P9wgsSJAAbi2K9jJRUxCZOqsxlMoxkM74tptKhGDo_JDKwLJSIKGMf2xoCoVPw_wcB) providing donation options for Nepal. I've already done it. I wouldn't feel comfortable donating to an individual when these options already exist.

Unfortunately there are people willing to take advantage of such a horrible happening to scam people who are willing to donate. (not saying OP is)

If people want to donate, then better to it via the official ways. Then you know your money will find its way to where it is needed.

sry but i prefer to use amazon for such donation, the web is a wild west, you don't know who is beyond a random account

we can't trust a basically brand new account for something like this

I have heard about ChangeTip method, because I'm user. But I supose that not all the users of Bitcoin are users of ChangeTip, and Dogecoin users have not this method.

My initial idea is contact with Spanish RedCross for donation, that's a good moment to start accepting bitcoins as donation, If it's not possible, I will send to the US-RedCross with Change Tip.

I have created new wallets for this donations because I want all the people can see  JUST the evolution of the donations in the blockchain.

I could understand that you think "this is a scam" for the first moment. But I'm a user of BitcoinTalk for a long time (not the tipical user created yesterday).

I have the webpage opened since 2 years, If I want to steal the money... people will start to talk badly about the page, And I should close it...

If you are a ChangeTip user, of course it's logical you send it directly to the RedCross.

Another thing... I write in my page linking it with my G+ account as a point of trying to offer trust to the people.

Thank you for postign dec.org because I know nothing about that initiative.

It's horrible to think that a person will use this tragedy to steal the people!

Actually anyone can use this method, if one really wants to donate, he can exchange dogecoin or any other altcoin for that matter for Bitcoin and send either using changetip or the other method described above.

I'm pretty confident that Bitcoinero_GB is not trying to scam anyone - but that's just based on my own personal opinion. It's understandable though that others will not have the same trust.

Also, thanks for the ChangeTip option I didn't know about it and will probably be the method I use to donate.

It would be so easy for official infrastructures that are helping them with donations to put a BTC addresses on their site and start getting donations worldwide instantly and anonymously. Someone tell them to do it, if we give them enough BTC money it would help us too since it would surely get on the news, and we need BTC on the news for positive news for once.

Honestly speaking! I heard red cross hasn't been effectively provide its services in the rural areas like Sindupalchowk and Gorkha!
So I donated 0.155BTC to a group of volunteers working at Gorkha rather than to any organizations!

If you are really keen to donate whatever fund available be it fiat whatever would be fine and it doesn't have to be bitcoin per se. What they really need right now is quick relief fund to buy items they could use straight away and continue with the rescue and rebuilding effort. For now I'm only providing to red cross and organizations who i can trust and hopefully they can make full use of it

I just changed my Bitcoins to MoneyGram and sent it to the volunteer team! Bitcoin is illegal in Nepal so Bitcoins cant be exchanged there as far as I know!

Thanks for the kind offer on helping, but also, if you have some other things to spare such as used clothes or other in kind items, that would probably help the victims of the earthquake as well. You can send it to a Red Cross chapter near you, or any other group that is willing to help the victims of the earthquake, send it in there and you'll help the victims as well. Bitcoins could be used in sending money instantly to donate, but the problem is there are some parts of the world wherein it is hard to exchange bitcoin to fiat and vice-versa. :(

As we had been talking here... There are bigger initiatives to help Nepal.

So now, I have changed my mind and published a deep list of all the initiatives to help Nepal with Bitcoins, if you know any more... please tell me and I'll include in the list.

Here is the list.
http://www.ganabitcoins.com/alternativas-para-ayudar-con-bitcoin-en-el-terremoto-de-nepal/

Current donations (just my initial donation :( ) has been sent to RedCross with changetip.

I know it's hectic there, but can you confirm with the Red Cross and other organizations there, what the correct details are for Bitcoin donations? Or Any online donations?

We need to get the funds to the correct organizations. {Where help is needed most}

I saw that they sold tickets for the "Manny vs Mayweather" weigh-in for the first time in boxing history and then donated that to the Nepal charities.

A ticket for a ring side seat at the match, cost +/- $3000 .... { It's just sick that Floyd Mayweather received $ 179,808,511 for that fight < 10 000 000 pounds per round >.... and people in Nepal is suffering without water }

Manny lost the match and got paid, $ 119,872,340 !!!!!

Good luck... We will donate as much as we can, as soon as the information is verified.

Hopefully they'd make an advertisement regarding this somewhere somehow (i.e. flyers, posters etc.) from Red Cross or any Non government organizations that are legit.
