He may not have been first, but he was the best. As a celebrity, Byron had the most to lose by sticking his neck out. We all owe him a debt of gratitude, if not actual coin.

If you want to congratulate someone, look at Maged and Vandiroy for example, who took to the blockchain and worked out the size and scope of the scam.

Celebrity? First I'd ever heard of him was on Bitcointalk.org. He does seem to seek attention like a celebrity though.

I have no priest. I am just genuinely grateful that Byron Micon, in spite of his celebrity, was willing to go out on a limb and identify a dangerous scam. I just hope that he is rewarded properly for his sacrifice.

Now the mainstream press is acknowledging Micon's pivotal role in uncovering this scam. I would note that he was also the whistle-blower who brought down Ultimate Bet, coining the term "super-user" in the process.

This man is a one-person, scam wrecker. He finds scams and shuts them down, selflessly.

Bitcoin is weird like that. All the old scams and obvious fraud are now made new again. Surprised nobody here is peddling 'Offshore Trust Accounts' like that guy on talkgold who ran off with a few millions.

Totally agreed. Micon did nothing and knew nothing. The only thing he did, which I still don't understand how, was make an extremely popular anti-pirate thread.

I'd also like to thank all the people behind the scenes who either gave us information or helped us compile information. They know who they are. Without them, we could not have gathered as much information as we did. I can only hope that informed investors in Pirate took heed and that we at least saved some people.

I don't understand why some people are bitter and feel the need to lash out at Byron Micon. He uncovered this massive Ponzi AND alerted all of us. Thank you, Byron, thank you.

It is my understanding that Byron used his celebrity to get this horrible crime into the mainstream media. He also did a lot of blockchain analysis, but he, unlike some glory hounds, doesn't like to discuss that openly.

For the record, (and unless we can clone JoelKatz) Id much rather have more people like that around here, than more Pirate Ponzi Team cheerleaders.

How much credit Micon deserves can be debated, and Im sure others deserve it a whole lot more, but sure as fuck Micon deserves more credit than all the Pirate worshippers who for a year attacked and insulted any nay sayer,  falsely inflated Pirate's credibility by pretending to know his identity and business model and enabled him to scam God knows how many more people.

I would have expected some of you posting in this thread still mocking Micon today would have crawled in a hole for a few more weeks hoping for a miracle, and then hibernate there for 6 months in utter shame.  That someone like Psy would ridicule Micon over this is just beyond words.
