Title: Circle Raises $50 Million With Goldman Sachs Support
Post by: Coinbuddy on April 30, 2015, 09:53:45 AM
Bitcoin financial services startup Circle Internet Financial has closed a $50m funding round.

The Boston-based company drew support from Goldman Sachs and China-based IDG Capital Partners, as well as all of Circle’s pool of existing investors, including Breyer Capital, General Catalyst Partners and Accel Partners.

Tom Jessop, managing director at Goldman Sachs’ Principal Strategic Investments Group, said the bank recognizes the need to invest in companies that "have the promise to transform global markets through technical innovation.”

A lot of venture capitalists are attracted to crypto world. Even the famous investment bank Goldman Sachs don't want to miss the train of investing to bitcoin's startup.

$50M is the equivalent of one day's lunch money for Goldman Sachs, this is a perfect example of a power play, Wall St. is moving in in a big way, not with cash infusion but with name recognition to 'legitimize' the CC industry.

Coinbase, Ripple, and now Circle all major beneficiaries of major corp cash, this is indeed great news for the CC world.

btw, I heard the story on the radio, it was a nationwide financial news story

They are looking for new mega trends. The old economy stock exchanges have reached their high, there is no more much potential so the investors are looking for other investment areas...that's why so many millions of venture capital have flowed into crypto coin and fintech startups since a couple of months. Circle is just another startup in a long row...

Basically I don't see where things are heading. The fund is actually put in to expand whatever existing infrastructure already in place. So in a way, existing users can keep more fiat and bitcoin into their wallet? I would actually be more excited to hear something that can attract new users to bitcoin and also especially on how we can bring that mainstream.

My friend, that is EXACTLY what that did in multiple ways.  Once Goldman Sachs publicly bestows its blessing on something it is coated with a gold hew that often serves to attract new players.

Take a look at all of the markets across the CC board, just about everyone got a bump on the news.    $50M isn't much but the goldman name is a whopper today's event is a winner for btc for sure

Already drunk on such power never before seen on Earth, it was with a smug smirk that the capitalist drank from the poisoned cup (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWpfr_0RmuM).

It will be interesting to see how circle expands into UK and china as coinbase has already launched its exchange in the UK. And IDG capital will be assisting Circle for its expansion in china. These two countries will really boost their user base

Once Goldman Sachs signed on to the deal ALL countries Goldman has good relations with are open to Circle, Goldman is the mother load, that is the 'door opener' not Circle it's now up to Circle to close deals.

Here's how the convo will go: "Hi Mr Nation, I'm Circle tiny-nothing associated with big-deal Goldman Sachs, I'm sure you heard of them?"
Response: "Why yes Mr Cierle, of course we've heard of Goldman Sachs, what would you like?"
