Any other projects and their funding you know about?  Please post them.

(I'm going to set this topic to self-moderated to prevent trolls and shills, but I'm now allowing positive and negative feedback to a point.  Please read update below for more info.)

Please note:  Funding is not everything in an altcoin.  The teams behind them matter much more, so it would be wise to visit their website and find out who they are.  It is also advisable to check their output via their source code repository.  Ratings for each can be checked here https://www.coingecko.com/en (https://www.coingecko.com/en)

Update (06/08/2016):  Removed the platforms/projects with super low volume in the exchanges.  Those that were removed had daily trading volume that stayed only in the hundreds of USD, of which we do not want people buying into because of higher chance of becoming bagholders.  Decent volume and liquidity is a must if an investor wants to get out of a trade due to various reasons.

Positive and negative feedback are now allowed as long as they're not shills and FUD.  Feedback must be articles or blogs from known devs that you might have read about a platform/project, negative or positive.  One example is this one:  http://bitcoinhivemind.com/blog/case-against-augur/ (http://bitcoinhivemind.com/blog/case-against-augur/).  I'm sure there are many more.  Please post them.

Update (05/18/2017):  Added Augur, Gnosis, Golem and Waves.

** The list is not official and is subject to change. **

Edit:  They got 31,531 BTC.  Added in OP.

Shouldn't Bitshares be 6.5 million there instead of 500k? That's what Stan said in your link there.

I think he meant 6000 total donations from supporters.  But I asked for a clarification, so I'll change it later if it is not correct.

It would prob make sense to convert it all to USD or EUR or whatever. BTC has gone down A LOT in the last year so you can't really compare most of the raised BTC values.

Yeah.  But the value of BTC raised changes day by day if listed in USD.  So I decided to list them in BTC unless fiat donations were made.

And what happened to BitBay?  I think they did well in their IPO/ICO.  Never mind.

You could just list the USD price of  BTC at the time. That way it would be comparable. No need to update it to current prices.

How long was the NEM IPO/ICO and how much was BTC on the last day?

Don't know any exact numbers. I think it ran from January to March. It's also a little more annoying to calc as NEM accepted BTC and NXT.

Please post a more accurate figure how much total in BTC and I can also put a figure average in USD.

Also how much NXT was made in the ICO?

Well, their IPO resulted in 3000 BTC worth of BAY sold. But we know that BTER and Bob were just faking the volume and taking the BAY back for themselves or whatever. Not sure how much actual BTC was netted and by whom. I think dzimbeck got paid like 100 BTC and x amount of BAY for him to develop.

Yeah.
(Output÷Input) is more important than funding(Input) itself.
It proves dev team's ability which will show the coin's future.
And had better refer https://www.coingecko.com/en in relation with Output.

I agree.  A good team is very important.  But calling funding "overrated" is a bit too much.  Good funding can take you a long way, especially in these hard times in crypto.  I think we haven't seen the worst of it.  The war of attrition is just beginning.  It's probable that within a few months we'll see altcoins, dapps, dacs, dao's, etc drop one by one due to lack of funding.

GetGems (http://getgems.org/) review from Coindesk.

Quote

Basic summary:

GetGems is a decentralized social messaging app built on open-source software provided by popular encrypted messenger Telegram. The app allows users to send and receive both bitcoin (BTC) and its native digital token, GEMZ.

Billed as "the first messaging app that pays you", users earn GEMZ by helping to grow the network, with rewards of 25 GEMZ given for every referral that generates a new participant. Additionally, 27,500 GEMZ are distributed to users daily, with users receiving a part of this amount proportional to the number of users they have invited to the network.

As the app is updated, users will have more ways to earn, including viewing in-app ads.

A token created on top of the Counterparty protocol, GEMZ are currently traded on exchanges such as BTER and Poloniex at a press time value of $0.01 per GEMZ.

FinCEN Fines Ripple Labs for Bank Secrecy Act Violations

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has fined Ripple Labs and its subsidiary XRP II a combined $700,000 for "willful violations" of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

According to a 5th May press release by the US regulator, Ripple Labs failed to register as a money services business (MSB) with FinCEN prior to selling XRP, a digital token used to settle payments on the Ripple network. Additionally, the company is said to have failed to implement appropriate anti-money laundering (AML) procedures concurrent with its responsibilities as an MSB.

Am i the only one who thinks this is the only alt that has a decent chance to reach the average joe, teens, girls etc? I mean it's the simplest one to use and available on iOS which is unheard of from an alt (besides some tickers), it has to do marketing in non bitcoin related channels, but the app is not ready yet.

I don't think it's the only one and you can tell that people still don't believe in it. GEMS is declining since day 1.

Which others, i'm curious, because i don't see any other app besides dogerain on the app store, you can't reach people with just a desktop wallet.

For me and millions of others it's about user experience which is rising, the app is slowly getting polished but isn't ready yet because the iOS version is in public beta with the main features not implemented yet. I think if this app gets popular, rivals will start to get mad because it's disturbing their whole advertising model where users are the product unlike getgems where advertisers must directly pay the users and not the company like fb, google etc.

I like the idea, and it has potential imho.  But spartak is right.  It's been declining and there's no volume.  But it's not because 'people don't believe in it' (again imho).  I think the problem lies in the lack in marketing and promotion.  Maybe they're still trying to make the app perfect before going on a full blown marketing campaign.

Well, I was not talking about app. I was talking about adoption, because this is what GEMS aims at first place - to be adopted. Every coin or asset is doomed to die if it's not adopted. Technology behind it is not that relevant. It's like comparing Windows with Linux for example. Linux may be better OS, but Bill Gates is richer than Linus Torvalds. :)

Net Neutrality and the Safe Network

Per Wikipedia, “Network Neutrality” is the principle that all Internet traffic should be treated equally. Essentially, the concept calls for a level playing field for all users, whether they be individuals or providers of high-bandwidth services like Netflix, HBO, etc., or whoever.

From an egalitarian perspective, the answer as to whether net neutrality is a good idea or not is easy: of course, it is good.

From the perspectives of companies which wish to provide high-bandwidth services, as well as the customers who are willing to pay extra to receive those services in the best possible quality, the answer is not so clear. Why, for instance, can’t such services as Netflix, and thus the customers who use them, pay more so that high-access-streaming channels can be built up, taking traffic off of the other lines, thus being better for everyone?

Beyond Basic Income: The Power of Networks Putting People First

The Basic Income in Brief

Swarm basic income is valued on the basis of the total production of the community. There is one base unit, the Swarm membership, and then a number of tokens which represent the value of other projects. This is similar to the old idea of each community or project having its own unit of account which represents the aggregate value.

At the moment, invitations are sent out manually based on existing human networks of trust. As reputational systems evolve this web of trust will be extended into many other areas as well.

Failures of Governance 1.0
Past notions of basic income typically relied on governmental involvement. This meant, by definition, a centralized control mechanism deciding when and where capital should be allocated.

It also typically involved an old idea of currency, the issuance of which was controlled at will by this same centralized mechanism.

Unfortunately, none of these mechanisms possess dynamic methods of accountability. The systems are not designed by nature to be transparent, and so there is always the possibility of some third party inserting themselves into the mix and taking control at a crucial stage.

Reveal

"Coin-first is the new mobile-first."

Such was the opening salvo of Reveal CEO Matt Ivester's enthusiastic introduction to Reveal, a social networking company billed as the first to use its own integrated cryptocurrency, revealcoin, which is an asset on the Stellar network.

The founder of college gossip website JuicyCampus, Ivester had reason to be confident at the event, having already closed the majority of its seed funding from investors including Resolute Ventures and Bitcoin Opportunity Corp.

While light on technical details, the pitch seems telling of the company's strategy to come. Reveal has so far sought to target everyday teenagers outside the bitcoin community while courting unidentified "social media celebrities" to the service.

"We believe that users should share in the value they help create," Ivester said. "We can do things that no other social network can. We can create true community ownership, we can directly incentivize viral growth."

Designed for quick sharing, Reveal allows users to design two-layer messages, the first of which can be peeled away to reveal a picture or drawing. Reveal aims to monetize through a similar strategy as the messaging service GetGems, mandating advertisers on the network pay with revealcoin.

Users can in turn earn revealcoin for promoting the network, interacting with ads or by reading priority messages from other users.

"We can solve spam, access and messaging," Ivester said. "Eventually we can be the way millions of teens are introduced to cryptocurrency."

Reveal is currently operating in beta with an eye to launch this fall.

SendChat Crowdfunding Campaign Goes Live on BlockTrust

Social messaging applications are playing an ever-increasing role in our daily lives, as we want to be in contact with the rest of the world at any given time. Most everyday consumers have a few different messaging apps on their devices. This growing prevalence of social messaging could be beneficial for Bitcoin adoption. SendChat wants to capitalize on this potential, and has launched a crowdfunding campaign to make its app available for both iOS and Android users.

From Ethereum's blog...

Ethereum vs. Bitcoin

As a starting point, and only as a reference, we could begin by comparing Ethereum to Bitcoin, because Bitcoin seems to have been understood, at least by those who wished to understand it.

At first sight, one can easily be duped by apparent similarities because both Bitcoin and Ethereum are open source platforms that have four common staples: an underlying cryptocurrency, an inherent blockchain, a decentralized consensus-based proof mechanism, and miners that support the network; therefore they must be similar. But that is a wrong conclusion. As soon as you dig deeper, reality reveals that Bitcoin and Ethereum are more dissimilar than similar. Each one of these 4 staples has a fundamentally different purpose in terms of what it enables, and for that reason, Ethereum is headed into a different direction than Bitcoin.

For background, Bitcoin was originally designed as a decentralized cryptocurrency network for transacting monetary value, and the main purpose of the Bitcoin blockchain was that backbone of trust for these financial transactions. It was only more recently that Bitcoin’s blockchain started to find use cases in non-financial applications relating to decentralized trust and as a store of value. Therefore, the programmability aspects of the Bitcoin blockchain itself were almost an after-thought, although sidechain proposals are hoping to make this programmability a little easier. In contrast, Ethereum was conceived from Day 1 as a software development platform for decentralized applications, and its blockchain was specifically designed to support executing apps on it. So, the Ethereum design had the luxury of learning from Bitcoin’s experience and remedied some of its shortcomings. For example, the Ethereum blockchain is faster at performing verifications, down to a typical range between 5 and 30 seconds, as compared to Bitcoin’s 10 mins...

CommBank starts using Ripple digital currency network – what it means for Australian fintech

Just when we thought the digital currency opportunity was moving offshore, the Commonwealth Bank has stolen a march on London, New York and Hong Kong with CommBank CIO David Whiteing’s announcement it would be using the Ripple digital currency network.

This has been noted around the globe and has significant positive implications for financial innovation in Australia. While other global banks including HSBC and Santander have hinted at participation, CommBank is the largest bank by a wide margin to form an innovative strategic partnership with a major digital currency network.

If the momentum can be carried through with enabling policy and investment, innovation at this institutional level can provide significant consumer savings as well as opportunities for Australian fintech investors and entrepreneurs. Consuming these new sources of instant liquidity opens the opportunity for entrepreneurs with the technical know-how to offer a variety of new services, from very fast, low-cost cross-border remittances to new hard asset mobile digital currencies.

The NXT IPO happened during a completely different time vs. the IPOs which came after it so they're not really comparable. NXT was the first IPO coin in existence and the success of the NXT IPO for its initial investors is the main reason why IPOs since then have been so huge in the first place.

NXT was also pretty much the first 2.0 platform as well which gave it a massive head start back when there were very few other competitors around and those that did exist were still under development (eMunie anyone?). Back then, most coins were just scrypt and SHA-256 clones based on Litecoin/Bitcoin with a logo stamped on top. NXT succeeded because BCNext created an innovative product with innovative features but few people took notice of it or believed its claims when it was first announced.

Lastly, there is also jl777. He's not a core dev but instead, he develops services that exist on top of the core protocol. jl777's assets have popularized the asset exchange and in turn developed it into NXT's greatest strength. Without him, NXT probably wouldn't be as successful as it is today.

Stellar Enters Legal Dispute With Bitstamp, Ripple and Jed McCaleb

The legal battle over roughly $1m in disputed funds continues between Ripple Labs and founder and ex-employee Jed McCaleb, with a flurry of new court filings over the past month setting the stage for conflict between the two sides.

In total, $1,038,172 is currently being held by digital currency exchange Bitstamp, an amount that both Ripple Labs and the Stellar Development Foundation, McCaleb's current employer, are now seeking.

Both sides have weighed in on whether the court should grant Bitstamp’s request to be discharged from the case after it filed a complaint for interpleader on 1st April. As part of that request, dated 13th May, Bitstamp asked the court for permission to transfer the funds to Stellar.

jumanji

This is a good, clear explanation. There were only ~35 coins on CMC (Sep 2013) and it was pre-BTC pump to $1200 that brought so many of us into crypto (too many of them were destined to be shark food in 2014, unfortunately).

I jumanji'd it so I could search and find it later in my posts  ;)

Cryptocurrency Platform GoCoin Announces Merger With Ziftr

International cryptocurrency payments platform GoCoin has announced a strategic merger with a cryptocurrency-based e-commerce company Ziftr. With this merger, both the companies will aim to increase mainstream acceptance of virtual currencies.

CEO and Founder of GoCoin, Steve Beauregard said that Bitcoin is facing a major adoption problem.

“Loyalty points play a key role in a consumer’s choice of payment method, and with the ziftrCOIN loyalty platform integrated into the ziftrWALLET, I believe we can finally give consumers the right experience to choose digital currencies over cards at checkout.”

ziftrCOIN is a digital coin designed to push more consumers to start using cryptocurrency as a mode of payment. ziftrWALLET is a mobile cryptocurrency wallet which combines the security of a desktop wallet with the speed of a cloud-based wallet.

Ziftr anticipates that its merger with the world’s leading cryptocurrency transaction platform will empower it to offer highly lucrative incentives to customers, increasing the probability that their next purchase is via cryptocurrency and not fiat cash.

But even with low-cost benefits, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies haven’t really been able to gain traction from consumers worldwide. Most fear that Bitcoin is too volatile for them while another big section expects them to be regulated first.

Reveal Raises $1.5 Million for Crypto-Powered Social Network

Cryptocurrency-powered social network Reveal has closed $1.5m in seed funding from investors including Mike Hirshland of Resolute Ventures, Boost VC, Digital Currency Group and the Stanford StartX Fund.

Founded by Matt Ivester, former CEO of social network Kindr as well as college gossip news site JuicyCampus, and Kindr CTO Josh Beal, Reveal is perhaps best described as a visually oriented, Q&A social mobile app.

Like Instagram, SnapChat, Vine and other new social media incumbents, Reveal targets users in high school and college. Unlike these market leaders, Reveal's posts offer a unique combination of doodles, photos, video and cryptocurrency.

It's biggest asset according to its founders is reveal coin. A cryptographic token traded on the Stellar network, Ivester and Beal believe reveal coin will serve as a user engagement tool that will resonate with their target audience.

Removed platforms/projects:

GetGems
Omni (Mastercoin)
Neucoin
SuperNet
Swarm
Viacoin
Zifter

Added platforms/projects:

DigixDAO
Lisk
The DAO

Stellar Co-Founder Joyce Kim resigns as executive director

Quote
Thank you, it’s been stellar.
A little over two years ago, I co-founded an ambitious nonprofit to create infrastructure that communities could use to freely design and create their own financial services. Now, the time has come for me to move on to my next project. I will be passing the torch to my co-founder, Jed McCaleb, and I will continue as Chairperson of the Board.

I have always looked at the tech industry as a powerful tool in shaping and advancing our society. I started Stellar.org because it is a technology that can make the world truly and meaningfully better. Digital currency is a great disruptor, but for me, it is time to find a new challenge. Still, the experience has been meaningful for me me both professionally and personally.

Why no Augur?

Very low volume in the Gatecoin exchange.  And now, not listed in any exchange afaik after the hacking.

Hello guys.  Another weekly update straight from the blogs of their respective platforms/projects.

It's really sad seeing what happened with Ethereum.  But in the long run, as far as the whole world of cryptocurrencies is concerned, it's a good thing.  Hacks and exposing security issues must happen now and it's better that way.  The earlier these issues are known, the earlier the devs can find a fix and everyone to learn from them.

Among the projects listed there's two that caught my eye and might make profitable trades.  BTS and XRP.  They look to go on a trend reversal as the volatility of both are starting to increase at the same time the prices are going up.  That means there's interest in these two again.  :)

But the interest is more pronounced in XRP because the volume increase is huge across the board on Polo and the Ripple gateways.  That plus the news of 7 banks join Ripple and 90 more coming.

Here are some charts.  Encircled are the possible points of trend reversals.

On a final note, these are not recommendations to buy but are just my thoughts for fun and discussion purposes only.  Thanks.

The Ethereum Foundation Releases The Soft Fork Update

Source (http://themerkle.com/the-ethereum-foundation-releases-the-soft-fork-update/)

Quote

Geth (the reference Ethereum implementation) reached version 1.4.8, the update will give the users the option to support a temporary freeze of the funds linked to The DAO accounts (this includes the address of the hacker). This will affect the users who made legitimate DAO splits, Szilágyi said:

As such – if the community votes to enact the soft-fork – we propose a follow up patch to the soft-fork that will whitelist all DAOs split according to the intent upheld by the enacted soft-fork.

It's very wise of them to let the community 'decide'.  That way, the people really responsible for this fiasco are eased of any more problems that was caused by the attack after the fork.

And of course, their community would decide to support the soft fork (that will lead eventually to a hard fork) in order to protect their invesments.  They are royally screwed either way, might as well go to the option where there is a 'fix'.

Edit:

On a side note.  Stellar Lumens is breaking out, albeit with small volume but still could be 'safely tradable' by placing a smaller position.

Hey guys, just recently been adding more links under each platform.  Specifically a community link which goes to their reddit page and a github link which goes to their github.

One good habit of getting into before deciding to buy a coin/token is to visit their community and see how active it is.  An active and vibrant community is usually a good sign that there's a lot of support for the platform.  And that's a good thing for grass roots, organic growth.

Another thing you should do is check out their github.  See if their devs are actively working on the project.  If you see the project has not been active for over a year (or a few months), then it's better to stay away and do further research and find out why it's inactive.

And finally of course, know the team!  Knowing the people behind the project is a must.  You should know their background and what their past projects/work are, be it crypto related or not.  A good team is as much as good as the platform or company itself.  If you have a team full of B and C players, then you could be producing a mediocre product.

With all that said, you should also be looking at the charts.  A downtrending chart should be avoided and also avoid predicting the bottom.  You're only exposing yourself to unnecessary risks by doing so.  Another thing is volume and liquidity.  The higher the better as it makes trading in and out easier.

Stellar:  Deloitte Partners with Stellar for Affordable Payments, Extensive Reach

Source (https://www.stellar.org/blog/deloitte-launch/)

Deloitte, one of the largest purveyors of professional services in the world, has integrated with the Stellar network to build a revolutionary cross-border payments application.

Launched at the Consensus conference in New York in May 2016, the Deloitte Digital Bank is now available to power instant payments across borders.

As mentioned couple of days ago, XLM (still labeled STR in Polo) was breaking out and could start to trend.  Well today there was a spike in volume coupled with an increase in price in which the signs are pointing that there is indeed a possibility of a trend coming.  The volume isn't really that huge.  But it's good enough.

Nxt announces: ‘ARDOR’

Source (http://nxter.org/nxt-announces-ardor/)

Quote

The Nxt core dev team is letting anyone get into the blockchain space with a new child chain platform, ARDOR, which will incorporate the technologies proven for years by the Nxt 1.0 cryptocurrency and blockchain. Soon, anyone will be able to create their own solutions using the blockchain technology with the Ardor child chains.

...

How to get Ardor

You’ll be able to participate in Ardor right away. As Ardor continues testing and development, Nxt 1.9 will be released. With Nxt 1.9, you’ll get your first chance to own a piece of Ardor. All those who hold an amount of NXT will also get a piece of Ardor. Snapshots will start be taken on an hourly basis, starting on July 14th to October 12th. Then, your total NXT will be averaged, and you’ll receive that amount in Ardor tokens on October 12th, which will be freely tradeable up until the Ardor system launches.

Looks like there's early interest in NXT's new platform as it showed in the current breakout of NXT.  But then again, it could be traders taking advantage of the recent news as most of the volume is from NXT/CNY at BTC38.  And in my experience, the Chinese love to pump it real good given the opportunity.  But I wish the NXT team good luck with Ardor nevertheless.

https://i.imgur.com/a519WF7.png

Either way, the price more than doubled in a span of a week or so and I wish I got in the trade.  :(

A little update on BTS.  Although there's little volume, the price has started to move again.  This could be a start of a breakout.

There's no news about BTS as of now.

Volume is low, but decent.  Majority of the volume comes from BTS/CNY at BTC38 and Poloniex.  Could this be another speculative trade by Chinese traders?

Possible short opportunity on ETH coming.  Weakening price action + lower than usual volume are early signs that it's starting to go down.  As we have seen, it was really supposed to go down as a lot of holders dumped their ETH tokens and are not touching this at the moment.  But I speculate the price has surged artificially by the insiders in order to save the platform.  And rightly so, they have to protect their entire investment.

The question is how long would it last though.  We still haven't heard from the attacker in days and he could still be there lurking and waiting for the right moment to strike.

Possible short opportunity on ETH coming.

Relevant link: "Ethereum's DAO Wars Soft Fork is a Potential DoS Vector (http://hackingdistributed.com/2016/06/28/ethereum-soft-fork-dos-vector/)"

But that noted, an ETH short is a risky bet because community sentiment seems to be solidifying in favour of a hardfork. To be frank, I don't know what's going to happen to ETH: the riskiness on both sides has gotten me leery. :-\ But then again, I'm not much of a trader. :)

Risk is always a factor in trading.  It's nothing new, and it won't really make sense if your trading decision changes because of it.  I mean isn't that what we trade for?  To take calculated risks...?

On another note, let's say Ethereum does the hard fork.  Will that stop people from attacking the network again?  The DAO hack was just a precedent.  Expect people to try these attacks again and again.  And if discovered and proven that the fundamental flaw is in Solidity itself, expect the worst.

I honestly don't know if the hard fork will stop any attacks: the soft-fork vulnerability was recently discovered. Hacking Distributed is prolly your best source on the subject.

They're the guys who found the soft-fork vulnerability, so they're the best source to check.

I will look into that once it gets listed in an exchange.  I usually give new projects and platforms the benefit of the doubt, but it would be a big factor if it can maintain a decent amount of daily trading volume.

- Discourages clients to use Ethereum due to fundamental issues

- Ethereum environment difficult to write applications that will scale

- Dapps will have performance issues as the number of transactions go up

- Needs to move to a different model to scale up

I don't think R3 commited in using Ethereum.  Sure they did some tests and research using the platform, but I don't think they found it as something they would use.  R3 apparently hired Peter Todd as a consultant.  Please listen to the interview posted a couple of posts above.  He basically bashed Ethereum and Solidity specifically.

I came across a blog of Vlad Zamfir that said

Quote
If we place community cohesion above all of our other values, however, then in the long run it will be impossible to prevent a majority from controlling the protocol in a way that runs against our core values. If we place our values ahead of community cohesion, then when there’s an attempted majority takeover, or an irreconcilable difference in values between subsections of our community becomes evident, then the community will split and maintain separate blockchains.

My question is, isn't it the other way around?  By having a cohesive community you get a group that's easily manipulated by its leaders, while a more anarchistic group is very much harder to control and manipulate.

What do you guys think?

A quote from Mage's statement.

Source (http://freepdfhosting.com/6047c65a73.pdf)

Quote
Vitalik, you are what Charlie Lee is to Litecoin and Satoshi is to Bitcoin. You are the guidance, leadership, and vision to Ethereum. Being in such a position of power influences the future of Ethereum, to include forks. The mere suggestion to fork (short of a major bug in the base software) in your circumstance is irresponsible. Because you are the lead developer and creator, involvement of any type would again set a dangerous precedent in uncharted territories. This could have consequences worldwide in legislation, where I fear your actions today will be debated tomorrow in every congress in democratic states. A developer’s influence shapes a coin’s community and developers worldwide should stand up with me and announce their disapproval of any action on your part. Developing the code and throwing it into the wild in order for the community to decide whether to fork or not does not abstain you from the future of Ethereum due to your influence. Once the word “fork” leaves your lips for others to hear, you have already swayed the masses to a degree.

The program was set up as a contract, pointing to the code as the final word. Therefore, interpretations of the code (including bugs) are tantamount to the legalities of the “attacker(s)”.

In other words, I personally believe that the attacker was well within his rights to exploit this contract. And now the community suffers for a poor implementation of a contract.

I mentioned this before, we haven't heard from the attacker since the fiasco waned.  He could be a move or two ahead of Vitalik and co. and a hard fork will put them in more of a rut than out of it due to legalities.

The attacker may get no monetary reward from all this when lawyers get involved, but I don't think that's his (or their) primary objective.  As to what that is I don't really know.  The plot will thicken.

I would like to add that BTS (Bitshares) and FCT (Factom) still look good to buy in my opinion.  They seemed to hit their lows and are looking to start trending up now.

Check out DGB (https://poloniex.com/exchange#btc_dgb) on Poloniex.  It looks like it's going to breakout.  Keep in mind this coin's volume is on the lower side, so expect a faster run up.  I will post a chart later.

Just a little news update.  It looks like the Ethereum Foundation needs to do another hard fork.  What in the world is happening?!?

Poloniex Nullifies Replay Attacks By Properly Separating ETC and ETH
Source (http://themerkle.com/poloniex-nullifies-replay-attacks-by-properly-separating-etc-and-eth/)

Quote

No Replay Attack Vulnerability On Poloniex

One of the biggest points of confusion revolves around the so-called “replay attacks”, which is an issue that should have been addressed by ETH developers months ago. Unlike the Ethereum developers, Poloniex made sure they separated ETH and ETC as best they could, resulting in the failure of replay attacks. Every address used on the Poloniex exchange exists on only one of the two blockchains.

On the Ethereum blockchain, however, ETH and ETC are still linked together. The developers assumed ETC would lose traction, while the opposite has happened over the past few days. As a result, ETH will need to implement another hard fork to rectify this sloppy coding by the developers. Never make assumptions in the world of cryptocurrency, they will come to haunt you.

That being said, users who make a deposit to Poloniex are still vulnerable to replay attacks. That is, assuming they haven’t taken the precaution of separating their ETC and ETH funds themselves. The Poloniex system will funnel funds accordingly to direct the balances to their unique addresses on the right blockchain, though.

The best way to solve this problem is by having users do everything they can to separate both wallets at an early stage, preferably before sending funds to the exchange. Most people use the Ethereum Mist wallet, which can be utilized as a sole ETC wallet by declining activating the hard fork code during setup. Do keep in mind parity client is still in development as well.

For the time being, there are still some interesting things that will need to happen shortly. First of all, the Ethereum developers will need to clean up their code to ensure the replay attacks will be invalid by default. Secondly, Ethereum Classic will not go away even though some people may want it to. There is support for this initiative, and the interest continues to grow.

There was another attack on Ethereum recently?  Which chain the classic one or the fork?  I thought the fork one was already fixed from any more attacks.

New Attack Against The DAO Reveals Sloppy Coding By Slock. It
Source (http://themerkle.com/new-attack-against-the-dao-reveals-sloppy-coding-by-slock-it/)

Quote

Not too long ago, it appeared somebody has been draining funds from the DAO again. This is the third time such an attack took place in less than two months. More worryingly, it appears very similar attacks have been used in all three instances. Luckily, this final attack seems to be “white hat hacker probing”. Then again, they did reveal some very worrying parts about The DAO’s code, which may spell doom for the project altogether.

The DAO Has Some Very Bizarre Coding

It is safe to say the Ethereum community received a nasty surprise when The DAO was under attack for the third time. An unknown entity was withdrawing funds from the project’s account, even though the balance should have been zero after the hard fork. For some reason, there was close to 38,000 Ethereum in the balance, and funds were being transferred to a different account through a recursive bug.

As it turns out, one of the “white hat hackers” probing The DAO’s contract code was responsible for moving this funds out. But that was not the worrisome part, as further research unveiled sloppy coding that should not be there in the first place. Sometimes, it is tough to believe this project raised US$150m, as this was a honeypot waiting to be emptied by the look of things.

It could be XRP's turn to rise and shine under the sun.  I think it has reached its current bottom and there's no way but up.

Triple bottom found in XRP/USD at .0052 - .0053 USD.  Seems like a solid hold and support and it bounces up from that range.

Some good news for you guys and I hope it stays that way...  You know how the markets are, especially in cryptos.  I was kinda thinking twice if I post these charts and show you what's going on with them because I might jinx it.  But what the hell.  :)

MAID and FCT are now slowly trending.  What's good about them is they're slow trends.  The kind that you don't panic getting into.  So it's good placing a limit order below the current price without fear of getting left behind.

Now another crypto showing a little spunk is XRP.  This has been trading on decent volume and there are some traders who seem to be in a hurry getting into this taking them to bad entries.  But I've been watching this as you guys have seen in my posts prior.

Hello Altcoin fans.  Just a little update.  I removed Digibyte, DigixDAO and Storj from the list.  DigixDAO and Storj have mostly low volume and with Digibyte, I feel that it is getting behind the rest of the pack.  It generally feels like it's still a 1.0 coin despite their efforts.

I might be adding ETC and STEEM soon.  That should be two good additions to the list.

Anyway MAID broke out!  I will post charts later.

A little update on BTS, FCT and MAID.  FCT and MAID broke out and are trending right now, but there's still time to get in.  You just have to pick your spots right.  While BTS is kinda trending but it's still waiting for that little nudge to take it to break out land.  ;)  It's the kind of price action that I like though.  It makes it easier to buy.  Just make a limit order and wait for it to get filled.  Simple.

By the way, in case you guys are wondering at what exchange these altcoins are good to buy, almost all the volume is at Poloniex right now.  That's the only exchange I would currently recommend if you're a newbie in trading altcoins.  I hope they list Waves over there soon.  :)

But keep in mind, the altcoin scene is very dynamic.  What's good yesterday will change tomorrow real quick.  So it's good to always get updated.

Well will you look at that?!?   :'(

I posted about DGB weeks ago only to let go of it a few days later because it hit my stop loss and didn't give it a second look.  I even removed it from my watchlist because I felt there wasn't enough going on behind the scenes with it in terms of further development or interests from start ups.  It felt like it is just there waiting, but nothing was coming.

Anyway this has been going on for the last couple of days.  Notice the spike in price and volume.  I wish I got back in.  But oh well...

If you want a little something something from the old school coins, take a look at Doge (not on my watchlist).  This is better than DGB, it has more volume, way more liquidity but it can spike the same way DGB does without the fear of holding the bag last because all that liquidity makes it easy to let it go without upsetting the price too much.

If you're not into Lisk yet and you're looking to buy, don't.  There's a whale setting up huge sell walls to disrupt trading.  Whatever his motivations are it's not good for the price overall.  That's funny because wouldn't that make his holdings less valuable?

Nope BTS is not abandoned.  It's now running Graphene that's developed by Cryptonomex and is now dubbed as 'Bitshares 2.0'.  The platform has been upgraded but the stake distribution has not been changed.  So BTS is Bitshares 2.0 in case you really didn't get it.

I believe it might be the beginning of a downtrend back to test .012 - .013 for ETH/BTC.  I know I could be wrong here but granting that BTC will continue its recent rise, it is very much possible.  Nothing special is happening with ETH's price right now in both ETC/BTC and ETH/fiat so everything is depending on how BTC behaves.  If BTC keeps going up, I could see an argument for shorting ETH starting at around .0186 - .0189.

Note:  The sudden fall to .01708 yesterday was caused by the surge of BTC to 620+ USD.

Just a heads up.  That list of the top 20 Blockchain technology companies is "based on social media influence, a secret recipe, and Klout scores", that's why it looks retarded.  But it just shows what the mainstream knows about the world of cryptocurrencies and what companies and websites are visible to them.  So that should have some value for the blockchain companies in that regard.

Can anyone suggest which ICO platforms or projects to add in the list?  It's pretty crazy that most or maybe all of the recent Ethereum based ICO's have accumulated over a million USD.  I wonder what would that mean for Ethereum itself.  I'm guessing more DOS and other attacks as the platform gets more and more popular.

Expecting to see a pump in LSK very soon. I think it's good to take a position into LSK even if you are not going to join ARKDAO. This seems like a good short term trading opportunity for all crypto traders.

Any analysis or opinions?  I'd like to hear them.

This is only my opinion and I want to make things clear that I say this without any rancor towards the NXT community and the platform itself. Maybe a little rancor towards the people who are scamming the cryptosphere community as a whole by giving those poor people hope that the project is still "alive".

My answer is yes, NXT is really dying. The signs are already there just like the cryptocoins of before who were in the top 10 but that are now out and forgotten by the community because it really has no value. Maybe like most cryptocoins, it was only good for earning some bitcoins by trading the hype behind each of them.

That's it for this week's updates folks.  So now for the good news:  Bo Shen was hacked and the hacker dumped the stolen ETH and REP.  The hacker also mocked the REP team using Bo Shen's hacked Twitter account.  If you guys are wondering he Bo Shen is, he's basically a Bitcoin whale in China.

More good news, Gregory Lucius Meredith of Synereo, founder of the platform has quit the project causing a price meltdown at Polo.  I feel sorry for all those people who invested in their ICO pricing at .0003 BTC per AMP only to see the value of their holdings fall.  AMPs are now at a tad over .00005 BTC.  But who was stupid enough to buy into their ICO at .0003 BTC when the price at Polo was lower than that at around .00026 - .00028 BTC or something.

Anyway, please post below for your thoughts.

Concerning Synereo drama it is really shocking, I really don't understand that some people will dumped at 5000sat what they bought few months ago at 33000sat.

I've been observing and looking for updates on the altcoin scene for quite a while now.  As an avid trader, I believe in being updated and reading the news and info available help in making better trades.  That's not to say that I take all the news and info at face value.  There's always an ulterior motive on why they release such news or blogs.  So it's always good to read between the lines and know when they're hyping or not.

But for this week I find it weird that there's almost no updates (or hype) lately.  Is it because of Bitcoin's price surge or is it because everybody is busy during the holidays?  Maybe some of them are giving up?  ;D

Please discuss.

Anyway what's up with Synereo?  There are some people in their Reddit that are saying that they feel that they were scammed.  It's probably the people who bought their ICO at .0003 BTC per AMP?  That was a poorly run ICO.  They were offering them at an ICO price of .0003 BTC a piece when Poloniex had it traded at a price lower than that.

Here's this week's update folks.  But sadly since Bitcoin is rising, the altcoins must decline.  If Bitcoin does surge above the recent high and holds, I think I won't invest in Qtum's ICO.  I'll rather hold everything in BTC and wait for it to be listed at Polo, Trex or Kraken where I can buy or sell them at less risk.  I feel iffy using a Chinese exchange that might get my BTC trapped in case the PBOC decides to change the rules again.

Lol dude  I always like to read your topic but this time you are wrong. That Charlie guy also quit ethereum in the early days, he left the building, he abandoned "the sinking ship" while eth market cap was only 50 something million ,  him abandoning lisk is only a good thing, not bad  :-*

So from Charles Hoskinson's inside knowledge of what's going on you don't think there's some form of mismanagement going on at Lisk?  Read the blog, it's all there as clear as night and day.

And by mentioning Ethereum are you trying to insinuating that LSK will follow ETH's price?  Maybe, I'll give you that, but those are two different projects that are going thru two different situations.  Whatever is going on at Lisk, the price is indicating that it's not good.

Anyway, I will add Waves in the list soon.  I just found out that they have their full nodes released.  So...  Is Polo gonna list them now?

Well it looks like this crypto bull run has made a lot of cryptocurrency followers slightly richer.  I think some of you might even be 'crypto retired' now and have accumulated enough to live on comfortably for quite a while.  Congrats!

The most impressive project that I'm seeing right now is NEM.  I think they started from the grassroots, with not a lot of funds and backing.  I saw them first selling stakes of NEM using the NXT platform.  Those investors who bought then should be pretty pretty rich by now.

Anyway I would love to hear more about NEM's humble beginnings and its history.  If somebody knows, or better, experienced it, it would be nice of you to drop by and tell us about it.

Hey guys, for this week I would like to share Chris DeRose's interview with Vlad Zamfir of Ethereum.  We all know Chris DeRose asks all the tough questions and almost attacks the interviewee, just short of strangling the truth out of them (I dig it ;D).  But surprisingly the interview turned out well and a lot of issues were talked about and I have def learned more about what Ethereum is not by watching the interview than reading thru the Ethereum articles/blogs which sometimes border on propaganda.

Lisk dev crew, please start the rebranding by changing that ugly logo of yours.  You should fire the guy who made your current logo.  Lol.

On the Maidsafe side, it's been years already and still there's no working product.  And according to that update, a (another?) developer left the team.  This doesn't look good for your investors.  But hey, it's an unregulated market so they really can't do anything about it.

Here's this week's updates folks.  As we might be starting to enter bear territory, all the hype tends to fade out and then expect the doom and gloom stories to come after.

Anyway, I wonder why BTCC listed ETC ahead of ETH.  Are they seeing something that the rest of the Chinese exchanges are missing?

Check out that tweet about Ripple by @AmerBanker.  It looks like one of those tin foil hat scenario they want happening...  Maybe it is.  ;D

And finally Stratis.  It's better if you yourself should read it as the writer is making some compelling arguments on why it could be a scam.  The ICO buyers made a decent clip tho.  Congrats!  Lol.

Removed some of the ICO projects like Factom, Maidsafe and Synero.  Left the ones that you can actually use to start your own ICO.  :D  Plus a couple of others.

Anyway, it's a funny thing I've noticed.  The news was building about how awesome all these ICO's are going into Consensus 2017.  Then right after that, nadda.  Even the market is the same.  It seems we have stagnated near the top and all it takes is just one huge sell down for one of these in the market and down they go like dominoes.

What do you guys think?

Hi .. first, I would like to suggest to do a deep research before you invest in any ICO. I have searched so much, I think Genesis (GEN) is a profitable coin on long term investment.

In my opinion, it’s best to invest in ICO Vireo in 2018! This project is very promising and reliable. In keeping with ICO Vireo you can’t worry about the safety of your money.

There's a whale setting up huge sell walls to disrupt trading.  Whatever his motivations are it's not good for the price overall.
