Title: completely new
Post by: bitcoin10137 on May 04, 2015, 09:41:01 AM
Hi all,

I am completely new to bitcoin.  I am a developer though so it certainly interests me.  Anyways, I was looking at wallets and to me greenaddress.it seemed the best because it seems to offer the best anonymity while still having access in multiple places.  I didn't see this with any other services.  Never once was I asked for my name or any personal info.  I wanted to test it so I went to dailybitcoins dot org.  It responded with the error "You have entered invalid Bitcoin address."  Any ideas?  Oddly enough, I had a wallet set up with Armory and it didn't reject it.  I am waiting for it to sync though.  This is one of the things I don't like about Armory.  It takes a fair amount of cpu power and when you start it up it can take as long as an hour before everything syncs.

you can try for a local wallet , the original one qt-core, if you download the entire blockchain it take 1 minute at worst to start up, but usually it depend on the cpu

anyway you should post it here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0

If you are new to bitcoin then you will need to read here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7269.0

If it is said that you entered an invalid address then it means that the address is invalid. Check your address once more and or perhaps you should check for the space

(space)1BeQ5UxYkuwMeTyiS6hHqVob2Z2TiBTFxQ

 1BeQ5UxYkuwMeTyiS6hHqVob2Z2TiBTFxQ

see that, perhaps there is a tiny space after you copied your address, that makes your address unrecoqnizable and it happened to me alot when Iam still new in bitcoin

I checked for spaces in a separate text editor and didn't find any.  Here is the address I used.

3LTkcvmF8GxPM2n2RmHvpgGtqJKh1koH2z

There are no spaces.   I used copy and paste so I know there are no typos.  How did I get the address would logically be your next question.  Here is how.

1.) I logged into greenaddress.it
2.) I clicked "Receive Money".
3.) I clicked Show URI and address
4.) I selected the address and not the Bitcoin URI
5.) Right-click copy on the selected address
6.) Right-click paste in the field on www.dailybitcoins.org
7.) Click send.
8.) Error.

Here are some screen shots.

Their website might not be talking the multisig addresses (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Address#Multi-signature_addresses) (starts with 3) as valid, try with a normal address.

So it seems that this is the reason but Greenaddress doesn't issue standard addresses.

Can't help it then but blockchain.info (https://blockchain.info/wallet) is also a good web wallet provider you can check them out but i suggest don't put your big bucks in it.
Use a offline or paper wallet for it.

Hi and welcome.  :)

As stated by others, The problem may be related to the multi-sig address. Try using a standard address that starts with a 1. Some wallets can't do multi-sig.

You can instead go with the blockchain wallet, and if you want to go completely anonymous, I have heard that https://bitmixer.io/ (https://bitmixer.io/) gives some high level of anonymity... Fees are a bit high though...
