I'm trying to decide whether or not I should continue mining since all the pools lowered their payout so much. I want to compare my Mh/s to others to see if my speed is too slow compared to others, then I will probably just stop.

average in eligius is around 260 IIRC.

You should be looking at how much each of your machines is making for you per day, in order to decide on whether or not it's worth continuing with mining.

e.g.

INCOME
Each of my machines has 2x 5870 gfx cards,
each card brings in 1 BTC per day at current difficulty
1 BTC = $8 (roughly current price)
Therefore 1 PC = $16 per day

Costs/OUTGOINGS
Each PC costs $1 to run per day, max (only if it uses the full wattage available to it)

RESULT

$16income - $1 expense = $15 profit ..... not including charges (exchange rate, etc)

Well, I'm around 340 Mhash/s. But Chucksta is right - you need to look at your own income and outgoings to make the call.

The reason why I want to discontinue mining is because pool payouts for me have decreased from 3 BTC/24 hr to something as ridiculous as 1 BTC/24 hr. The process has just become too inefficient. I would have to be mining at about 2GH/s to get the same reward as I did 2 weeks ago. And in 2 weeks it will probably be like 0.3 BTC/24 hr or something stupid like that.

Right now I am mining at 610MH/s

Sure, as difficulty has gone up payouts have gone down. I used to mine solo and get 50 BTC every four days or so. These days I mine as part of a pool and am lucky to get 1 BTC per day - I'm probably nearer 0.8 BTC/day.

But the point remains: however much you're getting, what you need to do is work out whether you're making a profit. Back when I was mining solo 1 BTC was worth only 0.5 USD - I was making $25 every four days, or $6.25 per day. Right now 1 BTC is worth around 8 USD - I'm making $6.40 per day. The income you get from the pool isn't the important part - what's important is actual profit.

Edit: my example isn't as clear as it could be - I'm looking at income in BTC against income in USD (or local currency). You need to also consider the expenses - power consumption etc - but as that's fairly fixed in my case I've left it out of my example.

My mining speed is ~1.6 GH\s and I am not going to give it up yet!

In the very long run mining must be unprofitable or else people will not abandon their government-issued fiat currency for Bitcoin. Once people start using custom ASIC, GPU miners will be just as marginalized as CPU miners.

It's about energy cost vs your mhash per watt, nothing else.

If after every conversion the amount of extra energy you have to pay for if putting load on your GPU is larger than the amount made, it stops making sense.

A more interesting question is: "What is your hashrate, and how old are you?"

I'm in my mid 30's, and my hashrate varies depending on whether my wife's PC is participating or not.
My PC gets 290 MH/s on the graphics card and another 16 MH/s on the quad-core CPU.
My wife's PC gets 56 MH/s on the graphics card and 8.5 MH/s on 2 cores of her quad-core CPU.

I work from home, so I can't install crap on co-workers machines and such -- must be nice :)

An example of someone who should have stopped mining a while ago, unless there are no costs :)

Approximately 800 MH/s with a 5870 and 5850, (it would be 1 GH/s if the 5770 I ordered wasn't DOA :()and I am 20 yrs. old.

And yes, it's actually profitable. It's not making me rich, but since my PC is always on anyways, the only increase in electricity is from the max load on the card. Card is a 5570. My estimated utility bill increase for last month was ~$5. Even at my speed, in the right pool i can make 4btc a month, give or take. So even if the value of the btc dropped to $1.50, I'd still be profiting.

2-2.1 gh/s I have 3 5870s, 1 5830, 1 5850, 1 gtx 570(gaming) and a gtx 9900gtx, Im 24 and have 1 son.   I don't just go on newegg and buy 3k worth or parts I tend to spend my time on ebay and be patient for the deals as that will keep the ammount I need to make back low.  Sure you can buy 5870s on ebay for 250 but ive scored a few for 175 bucks shipped, they are few and far between but that saves me 75 bucks from the 250 that most people are demanding and at current prices thats 10 btc....

Around 2800 Mh/s here.  It may go up a bit as I clean up and update a few machines.

That statement isn't fact, one needs to watch the threads they are using (don't max out all cores if using GPUs) but in my case my GPUs stay in the same place and I add ~28MHash/s by throwing the CPUs into the mix.

I run a 6950 Unlocked n overclocked, and a 5770 in the wifes rig. I get 610MH/s or so.
