Title: Never Watch TV

"The reason television became universal entertainment so quickly was because governments and the elite recognized its power to deliver propaganda and control the people. It's been nothing but a social-engineering instrument from the first, with a veneer of entertainment and "news" to keep people watching. Never before TV has the government ever had a way of reaching everyone with the same message, and a way of pounding that message home, telling everyone (as George Carlin put it) "what to buy and what to believe" all day long, day after day.

The only way to escape this brainwashing is to stop watching television. When you do so, you will find that its influence fades away after from 3 to 6 months (it probably varies from person to person). Gradually you start to think for yourself, and if you're bright you start to realize that prior to giving up the television addiction, you were not thinking for yourself."

Once you stop watching tv you don't start thinking critically.
You start reading nytimes.com/alternative news website/whatever and still let them think for you.

It's easier.

Diversity is important. Find as many information sources as you can, from (inter)national/mainstream ones to local/niche ones. And in the end, you must always keep some layer of abstraction and think that not all that you read/see/hear is absolute. To me it seems that, unfortunately, people (including myself :( ) seem to have lost the ability to judge the information they collect as more and more sources appear, while it should be the other way around IMHO.

Time shifting with DVRs reduces the time spent watching advertisements. Some elements of the entertainment industry have evolved with the information age. Besides, TV entertainment is a cheap way to get out of your own head for a little while.

I was all set to give a witty comment on "Don't watch TV" with a youtube link ;)  but i see it's one of those static photo audio uploads so this troll is empty handed for now.  And Alan Watts is a great speaker.

Anyway readers might be interested in this lovely little device:

(I am not affiliated but purchased a few).
Somebody drop them a line and get them to accept coins?

While I agree that TV can turn you into a drone, I find the message within this thread kind of ironic.

My message to libertarians: don't just rely on your libertarian websites for your news, information and education.
