Title: Request from Journalist
Post by: lukeallnutt on May 29, 2011, 05:44:27 PM
Hello all,

I'm a British journalist based in Prague interested in doing a story about bitcoin mining. Would anyone from this forum be willing to talk to me by email, phone, or Skype about your work? In particular, I'm interested in speaking to someone in person in the Czech Republic.

If anyone is willing to spare the time for an interview (you could remain anonymous if you so wished), then do let me know on this forum, or at lukeallnutt@gmail.com.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Best Wishes,

Luke

Luke, you might want to try Slush (http://forum.bitcoin.org/?action=profile;u=2167) - Slush runs one of the largest "mining pools" and is either from or lives in the Czech Republic. I can't say whether Slush would be prepared to speak to a journalist (many bitcoin users like the anonymous/semi-anonymous nature of bitcoin and value their privacy) but it would be worth asking - an interview with Slush would be great!

What publication would this be in? Is it online? (i.e. will nosey people like me be able to read it? :-) )

I would have to agree.  Talking to someone who operates a pool would be best as the rank and file bitcoin enthusiast doesn't necessarily have a lot of technical or economic knowledge.

May I ask why you want to focus on writing about mining and not something broader? Mining is really a small part of what bitcoin is all about.

Thanks all for your replies. I tried Slush but didn't hear back from him yet. Actually I'd like to speak to someone with expertise (like Slush) and also a "rank and file" miner. I know mining is just a small part of bit coin, but for a general audience it's an interesting part, which lends itself to offline world parallels. I understand people would like to keep their privacy, and I'm completely fine with that. So if you would be kind enough to answer some questions - anon or otherwise - please email me or DM me. Thanks again .
