Title: Rev 3 single randomly shuts it self down and no longer hashes.
Post by: Maidak on September 01, 2012, 12:43:06 AM
I'm using the bitminter client this only recently started happening about a week ago, and it seems like if its moved slightly the fan on the bottom gives like a grinding sound.

2012.08.31 [20:37] Error shutting down COM27 read thread: null
2012.08.31 [20:37] Error shutting down COM27 write thread: null
2012.08.31 [20:37] Cannot read from COM27: device disconnected

That would be the error in bitminter when it shuts it self down.

Uhm no, and they haven't moved from where they are since i startedmining with them its that tiny fan on the bottom of the rev 3 that is doing this grinding noise. But I don't think thats the issue with it just shutting off.

At about 55-57C Thats about what both my rev 2 and rev 3 run at with stock firmware, but I've even had this issue when they were running in the middle of the night which is about 47-50C. I'm uploading a slower firmware to see if it still happens. Will they shut down completely if they throttle to often?

I don't actually know, I don't own one yet

the little fan you describe, is it still pushing air?

Yeah it pushes air still, just if its moved a certain way it will grind against something i took it apart and it doesnt seem to be touching any of the case, or anything else that I seen.

Well the fan is not exactly really the issue the issue is if it is over heats it will throttle in my case however it just completely stops working all together, and I have to unplug it and re plug it back in for it to start working again.

55-57 is very hot, they usually run under 50c (even in very hot environment during summer)

Have you tried removing the case and pointing a 120 at it? That should do it. You might also try re-seating the heatsink if it is running that hot.

Well both of them run at 55-57c actually are my singles faulty then because my ambient room temp is usually around 70f and as low as 60 during the night time
