Imho, trust no one is a nice concept but not realistic in practice. For instance, regarding open-source software, 99% of us are not able to read source code.

I trust Matthew about 95%, a factor which I took into account when wagering with him. I never trusted pirateat40.

Besides me? The ghost of Satoshi Nakamoto of-course.

It depends on what kind of trust you mean.

If you mean transactions, I trust the major exchanges (although only to a limited extent) and I obviously trust myself. No one else.

The truth is out there.

I trust myself. Me. I. Had a buddy that was also mining coins, had 300ish right around the $30 spike in June '11, he had left them on Gox prior to the spike. He logged in to cash out, only to find out his account was compromised. I asked why he left them on Gox instead of a personal wallet, his best answer was "I can't trust myself".. ie, accidently formatting the drive where the wallet was stored and not remembering, storing the wallet in a Truecrypt volume and not remembering the password to said volume, etc.. I mean these are totally fail reasons and dude friend of mine, bad as he is with his own money, should ask himself one thing...

Who do you trust more? Somebody who is you, or somebody is not you? The former should be the answer every time.

I concur. This community needs more people like him (although somewhat less naive, so they wouldn't invest in ponzi schemes). I wish he'd get his money back.

Wait....why is Patrick so trusted here? Because of his "credit ratings"?

 He is running a ponzi just like pirate, dank, rustryan, etc...I smell the long con coming, and apparently the communtiy is just going to keep bending over and thanking the scammers for the privilege.
