Title: $1,000 bounty for Blockchain.COM (not .info) (Updated to $1,500)
Post by: Blockchain_Helper on September 03, 2012, 11:06:44 AM
I will pay $1,000 USD worth of Bitcoins for the domain blockchain.com (http://blockchain.com) (not .info)

The domain registration is private and the owner of the contact email doesn't reply.

If you are the owner,  or can contact the owner please PM me.

-----------------Sept-7-2012 Update-------------------------

I will pay $500 USD worth of bitcoin for a simple, verifiable, introduction to the owner of blockchain.com (http://blockchain.com) even if he doesn't sell me the domain name.

Phinnaeus Gage,  start your detective work!

Why do two people want it?  Did the .info owner put a bounty on it?

piuk has put a 5BTC bounty on another thread, and before him there was an user looking for it already.

Now this "Blockchain_Helper" wants to contact the owner too, and "World" has replied to every thread about the subject (including this one) with the same message:

Is there any information that can help them to find the owner.thx

I've been put in contact with someone who claims to be the owner of blockchain.com

We agreed on a price, but so far they have:

refused to prove ownership of the domain.
refused to transfer the domain first.
refused to use an escrow service.
refused to provide any trade references.

I don't know if this person is a scammer or not, so this bounty is still available to anyone who puts me in contact with someone who can be confirmed to be the owner of the domain.

refused to prove ownership of the domain.

That should be very easy and costs them nothing, even changing the whois email would do IMO. I'd say it's some scammer trying to get the bounty.

This person claims to be the owner of blockchain.com (http://blockchain.com):

http://www.facebook.com/fannnnnnnnneww (http://www.facebook.com/fannnnnnnnneww)

I contacted them,  agreed on a price in Bitcoins,  but they:

1. Insisted that I pay the bitcoins first.
2. Refused to use an escrow service.
3. Refused to provide any proof that they actually own the domain.

They also said many strange things during the Skype chat in regards to the domain.

Does anyone know if this person is the real owner or if they can be trusted?

If anyone needs someone to verify that an entity actually owns the domain or provide an escrow or do domain transfer verification I can help on the technical end. I'd do this for free, too, I just want to see the domain blockchain.com actually used. I can verify that WHOIS history going all the way back to when blockchain.com was registered has included the same 6e5cca004afd476fb202080a04a2d443.protect@whoisguard.com email. If they are not getting notified, they need to update their contact info with Whois Guard.

It should be trivially easy to prove that you own a domain, so if someone refuses to do so I would consider them a scammer.

Also not wanting to use escrow... I can't think of a single (valid) reason to not use escrow.

This is exactly why people get scammed so often. This guy is screaming scammer, You should not even consider doing business with him. There is absolutely no legitimate reason he shouldn't prove he is the owner or use escrow and there are ways to do that without compromising his anonymity. Run the other way! Don't waste your Bitcoins because it'll be just throwing them down the drain.

Hi Blockchain_Helper,

I'm in the race for the $500 (in BTC):
http://whois.domaintools.com/blockchain.com

The WhoisGuard email address will be forwarded to the real address:
"When some one sends an email to your uniquely generated xyz.protect@whoisguard.com address, we will in-turn forward it your real email address which you specify. "

Here you go:

Good luck! Robert

Well, I wasn't sure if it had been tried. Since it was not written explicitly. At least, I thought. "the owner of the contact address does not respond", almost explicit...

I've learned not to think too much for other people. Especially when free coins are involved.

Indeed it's not obvious for people who read just this thread, but there are a couple other threads regarding blockchain dot com, and it's been discussed on there. Perhaps an effort should be made to keep the discussion to a single thread, locking the others.

What kind of offer are you prepared to make for the domain? I don't own it, but I feel there would be a better response from the owner if someone were able to get a message through to them with some hard numbers, not just "please contact me".

I don't see the malware, just usual parking page with ads.  But you may be on to something.

Cancellation of Registrations in the Event of Material Breach by the Registrant

If the registrant fails to respond "for over fifteen calendar days to inquiries by Registrar concerning the accuracy of contact details", then pursuant to RAA Subsection 3.7.7.2 the registrant is in "material breach" of its registration agreement with the registrar. That subsection also provides that "willful provision of inaccurate or unreliable information" shall constitute a material beach of the registration agreement. Under either of these circumstances, the RAA provides that the material breach of the registration agreement shall be "a basis for cancellation of the Registered Name registration."
http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/advisory-10may02-en.htm

So, if some deadbeat squatter who can't be bothered to respond to emails from their Registrar owns it, it might be possible to revoke the registration.  I would say contact the registrar saying you don't get a response and suspect the contact info is inaccurate.  Whether blockchain.info can guarantee they're the ones to receive it in that case, may be a different issue.

Might also check with WhoisGuard to confirm they have been forwarding your attempts and haven't been getting bounced mails or something like that.

Like other suggested solutions in the past, if it were this easy it probably would have already been done, but may as well throw it out there.  Shame to see this domain name languish without even hearing of ridiculous demands for a $1million sale or something.

Stop looking at the whois information like noobs. It is a private registration (http://www.whoisguard.com/), and the information you see there is the privacy company.

Result: Domain - Blockchain.com IS currently subscribed to WhoisGuard.

If the person doesn't answer their emails, then the only way you might even find out the owner is by using law enforcement in Panama. Suing the domain registrar won't help you either. http://domainnamewire.com/2011/05/09/namecheap-sued-over-whoisguard/

Even if you were to trademark the domain name and pay the $5000+ to file with ICANN, you would likely get tossed under arbitration (possibly with the registrar representing); they only need evidence that you acted in bad faith to obtain the domain and you have no established business.

$4 to register a domain, I would say $1000 is a very fair price

Actually you should have read a bit more on the case you posted its not the first one(and they lost that one) and namecheap have given up the details of the registered person in multiple cases.

Also wrong on the  UDRP, fee for single panelist is $1500  and the registar is not allowed to be involved in it

G. The Role of the Registrar

What is the registrar's role in the administrative proceeding?

Except as decribed below, the registrar does not and will not participate in the administration or conduct of the administrative proceeding. The WIPO Center has prepared a flowchart (word or pdf) illustrating the basic interactions between the WIPO Center and a registrar in the course of a case.

The registrar's role in the administrative proceeding is as follows:

(i) To provide requested information to the WIPO Center, including confirming that the disputed domain name is registered with it, that it is registered by the person or entity identified as the Respondent in the Complaint, providing the Respondent's contact details and, when necessary, the Registration Agreement and associated documents;

(ii) To prevent the transfer to a third party of a domain name registration after an Administrative Proceeding has commenced; and

(iii) To implement the Administrative Panel's decision.

And I assume that the person who owns blockchain.info has enough proof that he has a established business and not acting in bad faith.

$1000? For real? :D $1000 is low price even for pointless random domains. This one is worth much, much, MUCH more.

$4 to register a domain, I would say $1000 is a very fair price

Some domain names sell for 500k+ one that I was looking to bid on in auction went to 850k...
