Zero, I would rather be poor than deal with BFL.

I would never deal with BFL, they have caused me enough emotion and sleepless nights. They're not getting any of my hard earned wonga!

You didn't hear? bitcoinasic.com started selling ASIC pre-orders with no proof of an actual product, so now we're free! Everyone can now hate BFL for selling ASIC pre-orders with no proof! [pitchfork]Down with BFL![/pitchfork][/sarcasm]

i dont care, I just want my 40GH/s PLUG AND PLAY Bitcoin mining rig  :D

I understand BFL took a long time to ship their FPGA, but if we dont order from BFL... then how do we stay in the game?  my 6 video cards are going to go from making me $250 a month to $25 here in a couple months... if i am getting even less then a $100, then im just going to throw my cards in gaming rigs and craigslist them as budget gamers.

it will make it easy for anyone to get into bitcoin minning.
I never mined b4, because it was to hard to setup, but now i will be mining at 40GH/s

I think hash rate will go up so much its going to be unbelievable
not only did the hardware get 10X better but there will be 10X more miners!

This. None of my family/friends want to get into bitcoins, because they see my GPUs and their wicked loud fans, and that's not them. They're not computer geeks who LIKE playing with hardware and mhz and PSU inefficiencies and and command line mining programs and........you get the idea (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7216.0).

Now could I convince my brother or a couple of my nerdier friends to plug in a coffee warmer and download EasyMiner? Sure!

right so this means mining is not going to be profitable anymore
everyone will spend 1500$
and get 0.1BTC / day costing them 10$ of electricity

Wtf? I'm sorry the adoption of Bitcoin is getting in the way of your mining.

Also, the Jalapeno is $150, not $1500, who knows what 3.5GH/s will make for BTC in 6 months or a year, and a 5W USB miner will take a LONG time to consume $10 worth of electric.

My point stands though. For a non technically-minded person, a plug-n-play solution can do wonders for Bitcoin's adoption.

mining bitcoin is always broader line profitable.
as soon as its more then broader line profitable more people jump on board
BFL Jalapeno is going to make this even more true.
1 thing is for sure BFL Jalapeno's is going to bring more miners (alot more).
it will come to the point where the difficulty will be so high that it will take 10$ worth of electricity for a Jalapeno to produce 1 BTC

that or

everyone that actually goes out and buys a few Jalapeno will make lots of profits for many years

the difficulty will insure that mining is always profitable...for those with the lowest electricity rates

I am really torn what to do.  I love playing with my hardware, but i just dont see the appeal in jalepenos once everyone has one.  Once GPU mining is squeezed out -- i bet each jalepeno might only make $20 a month worth of bitcoin.  I think i may just call it quits.

You don't have to just get Jalapenos. The SC Singles will net you about 25% more speed for the same price (comparing 9 Jalapenos to 1 SC Single).

It should say <$1000

BFL is basically going to compleatly knock me out of mining, So im going to buy One jalapeno just so i can Slowly (and i dont care how slowly) gain bitcoins to spend on the internet, Or just toss into a valut and wait to cashout

sort of my situation, the GPUs will idle of course

I'm in for a single, I know it is a risk, but one I can afford

Bitcoin is a speculative play to begin with

I am in for $150.  I don't have much faith that BFL will deliver.  $150 is as much as I am willing to loose.  I think BFL and Pirate40 have a lot in common.  Just because BFL has payed out in the past doesn't mean they will in the future.

$0

ASIC is too specialized.  It will only be good at mining bitcoins.  Moore's Law, the new generation of ASIC will wipe out the old ASIC so there is an incentive to race to the top...  if you don't make back your investment income in time, the hardware will be rendered useless.

At least for GPU, you can use it on your computer, sell it on ebay to other gamers and join Coinlabs (and others tbd).

So you're not buying ASICs because the ASICs that come out after these will be faster (by how much, I wonder?). So by that logic, I shouldn't buy a new CPU, because the CPUs in 6-12 months will be faster than the one I can buy today....

"Useless" and "outdated" are two different things. My brother's "gaming computer" from 2008 with its e8400 C2D, DDR2 ram, and Geforce 9800GTX may be be "outdated" by being several generations old, but it's not "useless" as it still playses Assassin's Creed and Skyrim just fine (which is all he wants it to do).

We buy what we have available, and we continue to mine on it until it's no longer profitable.

I just don't like the idea that we have to throw away our hardware after a couple months.  If we have other alternative use of ASIC other than mining, then I will definitely take a serious look.

Who said you're going to have to "throw your hardware away"? The ASICs for preorder now will generate an acceptable amount of BTC for quite a while. Unless the price of Bitcoins drop to nothing, then they will be profitable for a LONG time. The jump from 1st gen ASICs to 2nd gen ASICS is not NEARLY as big as the jump from FPGAs -> ASICs.

2nd, the whole POINT of having an ASIC is that it is specialized for bitmining, and nothing else. You can't have a double SHA ASIC *designed to mine bitcoin* and have it be used for alternative purposes. You can't be mad at Creative or Realtek and never buy their products again because the ASIC in their sound card can't be used as a Wifi card. Sure GPUs can play games, convert movies, AND mine, but the price you pay for all that diversity is the gimped speeds.

Zero. Since it's not an option in the poll, I chose >100,000. I am seriously considering buying an ASIC miner, but not from BFL.

This poll is deceptive at best.
