Title: BitGold - http://www.bitgold.com - I believe this is a Ponzi/HYIP
Post by: icanscript on May 12, 2015, 10:19:35 PM
Hi,

I have seen many referrals today for this site, usually this is a warning sign to a Ponzi/HYIP. https://www.bitgold.com

After reading some of the posts it appears they want all your personal details to provide you with some "virtual" gold. which they hold for you. until you can collect at a vault, and im wondering how easy that would be...

I have also seen this website design, images before now on a few other sites.

Originally back in 2005, BitGold.com was a HYIP, You can view the wayback machine archive below.

Wayback Machine showing BitGold in 2005: https://web.archive.org/web/20050403034103/http://www.bitgold.com/

Since then, BitGold appeared to be doing very little, until January.

Please people be wary of this.

I have to say I have a hard time believing they are the same people. They seem like a legitimate startup in Canada. Also their 10g gold cube contest, one which I was a winner of has their name embossed into the gold. Seems like a lot of work compared to what is being claimed at a previous incarnation? Did the domain expire and get used by the now new bitgold.com?

Well I do imagine it is a different startup. But I was just pointing out the domain history and the link. I did find this though - https://web.archive.org/web/20140209215245/http://www.bitgold.com/

Also the whois shows it was updated (could be details like company or could be a transfer) and now has the status clientTransferProhibited. This would however have to have been manually asked to be put back on after a transfer. When I have transferred domains in the past clientTransferProhibited needs to be removed so transfer can commence. It seems to have expired and been bough back in 2006.

I have sent them a few questions anyway asking for further info just to see if they say any different.

You won the contest and received the cube of gold? Did you have to pay for shipping(where was the parcel sent from and was their a name or just the company's signage) and is it pure or just combination of other metals like filler metals?
I too am sceptical before putting any bitcoin or money into this. I want to know if it pays out what they claim to offer "Their weight in gold!"  ::)

I don't think its a scam and it has some notable backers. Instead I think its an attempt to take on Bitcoin and cryptos for low international fees. Basically you purchase a digital representation of gold they have in a vault somewhere. To make an international transfer, you would transfer your ownership of that gold to someone abroad. But make no mistake they are not using a blockchain, its 100% centralized and operated by a company. It has absolutely nothing to do with BTC whatsoever beyond taking on Bitcoin through marketing with the word "bit".

If you're into Bitcoin for low fees, it might be worth looking at. If you're here for the innovation, the infallibility, incorruptibility and free market of decentralized cryptos - its definitely not for you.

At the end of the day it is absolutely no different than standard banking except that the asset they back the bank with is gold and they promise not to create any debt. So they promise not to create more digital Bitgold money than there is real gold in their vault. The big failing with this is that its in their best interest to put more bitgold on their books than they have in their vaults. And if they don't break their promise about creating debt, someone else surely will because it would be the most obvious way to profit from the business they are running. If its successful and they are honest, they are doomed to be run out of business by more profitable competitors offering the same service but being smarter about it.

It appears that a lot of people are signing up on this new Site as they award free Gold after account approval, I just enquired further about it and then received the following email response:

"Thank you for initiating your sign-up. Currently, your account activation is pending approval. Once approved, the bonus gold will be credited to your account. Due to an overwhelming number of referrals, this can take up to 5 business days or more. We appreciate your patience regarding this matter.
Please note, different countries have various promotions running at different times, so follow us on our Social Media to keep up to date on promotions in your region."

It seems legit so far anyway

Bitgold is a trusted website and I've known people who have managed to redeem sucessfully. They rejected my ID card recently as they require a passport or another national ID card for verification. Their customer support is responsive which proves they are reliable.

I'm not here to defend bitGold, but for what i've read on their site, you have to link a personal bank account (and personal means that you own that bank account) before you start sending money from a bank account, ad that you can't receive money from other bank accounts that are not in your personal use (intestate to your name), this because some country are not allowed to deal with this service, and receive money from another account not in you own property can cause to them problems, because it could be of a country not allowed for their services.... this is what i've understood reading tos and faqs...

I won't say that I didn't expect this to be honest , I provided my informations for the registration only but nothing for Bank or whatever . they really attracted shitload of people with their method of "invite a friend , he gets 25$ of gold , and you get 25$ of gold" (depends on country of course) . and the withrawal is after two months so we will see in couple of months how legit is this ;D

Where the fuck do you get off with claiming that my questions are "clearly not serious"?

Yep, in due time the old bitgold.com developed a negative connotation toward its brand under the direction of the infamous Hajji Mbagne DIOP (https://web.archive.org/web/20010311192021/http://www.bitgold.com/).

After a five-year run, the old bitgold.com took an ~5-year hiatus to emerge as the Bitcoin-themed bitgold.com: https://web.archive.org/web/20110717111117/http://www.bitgold.com/

Early in 2014, the new Bitgold introduced itself to the world, doing so without procuring the domain name, for [fuckin'] clearly it was supposedly still for sale on May 9, 2014: https://web.archive.org/web/20140209215245/http://www.bitgold.com/

A smart outfit would not only make sure that a brand does not have any negative connotation attached to it, but make sure it's available prior to getting the brand registered. That, or they fucked up big time in that regard, but you can trust them with your gold.

That's what extent the BitGold dudes will go through to advance their snake oil.

Not a serious question: At only a 1% transaction fee, how much gold has to exchange hands at BitGold so that Alexander Soros, the son of George Soros, can see a return on his $21.4 million investment?

Let me guess: You're paid the big bucks at BitGold, that's why you're here to see if you can destroy its brand in six posts or less. I'd say you've done it in exactly three, giving you a bye on your first and second post.

1. Excess vulgarity. (Poor little Derrick was hurt and had to hunt his mommy's titties to suck on because I used the word 'fuck' three times.)

2. Asking if large accounting firms work for free (this is either not serious or very stupid) (I was driving the point home because everywhere I looked, BitGold espouses the accounting aspect but NEVER addresses the audit of the actual gold.)

3. Joining a witch hunt (Derrick adds up 1 and 2 and comes to the conclusion that I, or anybody else who speaks ill of BitGold is on a witch hunt.)

Number of Bitcoin-related entities still around today after expressing virtually the same clause: 0

I'd say that this Derrick dude is the Inaba of BitGold.

Oh, that 2005 bitgold site is just like today's hyips :( However I believe the domain have chaned owner, as the wayback machine have featured even older screenshots of that site, and the site looks like a throwaway (i.e. fake company website which intended to sell their site). Or the old owner of the domain don't extend the expiry date of the domain, and it got registered by another.
BTW I also wanted to get some free gold there but I had an account right before they started the campaign and I got nothing :(

Whoever owned bitgold.com back in the day wouldn't have given it up so easily due to it having some value. And surely some Bitcoiner wouldn't have ended up with it. And surely BitGold wouldn't have started a company named BitGold without FIRST obtaining the domain name that was STILL for sale when BitGold was incorporated.

I honestly believe that those who were behind the old BitGold are one and the same behind the new BitGold making us believe that the site has changed hands no less than twice over the years since its HYIP days.

If Derrick didn't have his and others dicks up his ass so far, he would have came here and shed proper light on the subject oppose to echoing what other one-post-count users were crying - witch-hunt!

So not to disappoint, yes, I'm officially on a witch-hunt pertaining to BitGold thanks to Derrick's efforts. Oh, and I don't have to worry 'bout him refuting my discoveries because he's done with me since having already wasted my question, albeit asked in the name of others.

BitGold is directly connected to GCX.io which is also directly connected to Anthem Vault. If you don't like one, we'll funnel your ass to another entity we're associated with that it, too, has its accounting paperwork audited on a daily basis. Where's the gold, you ask? That's a secret, but rest assured that it, too, has been audited and surveyed and that there's no monkey business afoot, wink, wink, wink.

Other services such as Bitreserve, Bitcoin Bullion, DigitalTangible and Amagi Metals offer similar services to BitGold.

I wonder why they didn't mention their Hayek or Netagio.

Hi there!

GCX here and we've just stumbled upon this.

We are in no way shape or form affiliated to, have done business with or share any direct or indirect relationship  with BitGold or AnthemVault.

We are direct competitors and that's pretty much where it ends.

Happy to answer any and all your questions.

Regards,
GCX.io
