Title: Boycott the "50BTC", "BTC Guild" and "Deepbit" pools. They are too big.
Post by: BC Systems on September 05, 2012, 04:16:22 AM
These three networks comprise of 50% of the network. Their collaboration and/or seizure could cause the Bitcoin network trouble.

It is highly recommended that you move to a smaller pool in order to decentralize the network.

Thank you.

Even the biggest pool is still < 20% of the entire network. Although I am a big fan of Ozcoin ;)

Eventually, someone will build a much more user friendly p2pool which will cause a mass exodus from these pools to create a decentralized mining network. Just a prediction thought! :)

Isn't EclipseMC bigger than BTCGuild anyway?

EclibpseMC Current Speed:   1.56 TH/
btcguild Pool Speed 2,520.36 GH/se

BTW this was pulled from both home pages seconds ago so might be different when you check

According to last weeks averages, they're not quite there yet:

It's funny how people search for things to panic about.  What next? will there be a call to boycott the unknown section?

The hysteria was bad enough when just one pool approached 50% now we have to worry about 3 pools combined.  Next we'll have to worry about, what 6 pools? 8 or more?

Ridiculous.

No, the first pool ever was doublec's first pool based on puddinpop's method of pooled mining (I think)

Yes, I think the pool I ran based on puddinpop's code was the first public pool. It predated the "Difficulty 1" mining idea that I think Slush came up with. Here's the original pool page (http://www.bluishcoder.co.nz/bitcoin-pool/) and the thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2027) about it.

+1 to this

p2pool is the solution

but yes, now it's a bit hard to use for the newbie.

I set it up in half an hour... isn't that hard on windows :)

I have on GH/s directed there and I'm willing to switch there next month!
