Alright, my friend got me into mining, but I need a rig that can mine and profit..

I sold my x79 rig, to make a good mining one.

So far, I plan to go with a cheap z68 board, and a Celeron G530 chip. Is that fine?

Also I wanna mine with a 7970, that's cool right?

What psu would be good? I got a 600w Corsair GS600, but think I need something atleast gold rated...

Might be time to sell by the time you get it running...  Bitcoin difficulty is very high and getting dramatically higher, soon.

well dont go buying gpus to mine on now (unless you are sure you can resell them in a couple of months when the market gets flooded) unless you can get 2nd hand real cheap
mine on ATI HD GFX cards you already own - sure :)
or build that awesome gaming rig and mine on it till no longer profitable and enjoy great gaming for a while to come :P

Even established miners are finding this a troubling time to forecast the future :)
Many have bought next generation hardware that will not be delivered for possibly several months
Others will be pulling out of mining when their GFX cards are no longer viable

No-one actually knows what will happen over the next few months,
there never has been a cryptocurrency halve its reward before,
no cryptocurrency has had an increase in the magnitude of hashpower ASIC will bring to Bitcoin,

At best you will get opinions - and they will vary widely :)

Pretty much what Graet said. Don't go and buy new GPU's unless you intend to use them(gaming) beyond the point when GPU is profitable, or you're able to sell them when GPU becomes unprofitable(costs the average person more in electricity to run the card than it pays out.)

Some factors to consider:  How much do you pay for electricity? Will you be able to sell the GPU for enough to make it worth it while mining with them is still viable?

There is alot of skepticism surrounding the production and utilization of ASIC devices. It's all been a gamble since the $30 bubble of June '11 and subsequent decline; the new gamble is investing in ASIC hardware. Alot of people have put their bets in ASIC development, but even more people have said it's BS.

If I were you, I'd try and pick up GPU's 2nd hand for cheap, and try to re-sell them to gamers in late December for pretty much what you paid for them. That way your only real investment is purchasing the electricity used to power the card(s) for a few months and stack some coins to hold onto. I'm becoming less skeptical of ASIC devices myself as there are now 3 different vendors offering pre-orders, not just butterfly labs. Of course it could just be "hey, that guy's doing a long con, I should do one too"...

Also a guy has his Jalapeno preorders for sale on eBay for $250 each, and says if I preorder from the real site, i wont get mine for another year. LOL thats false right? Cuz on Butterfly's site, they said the pre-orders are undisclosed, so he's prolly bs'ing to sell his for $100 more.

If you search the forum theres a few competitors coming out and I doubt BFL will have the playing field to themselves.
