Title: Two choices.
Post by: BC Systems on September 07, 2012, 03:20:14 AM
You can either live in a open society where you are responsible for taking care of yourself -- nobody is forced to care for you or protect you. What you do with your life is totally in your hands.

...or you can live in a closed society where your work is guaranteed, so is your food, medical care, housing and other needs. However, you don't get any choice. You are told what to wear, what to eat, where to go and when to sleep.  Your career is chosen for you. Your specialty is chosen at childhood. You may have a minimal hobby in the rationed time after your daily work. You may get the privilege to reproduce.

Which of these do you choose?

Does everyone get the same choice?  Is it a one time thing, or decided at birth or what?

... I can't vote, for these two choices are actually the only two choices I see as acceptable, and I see both as equally acceptable.

And in the end I think we will have both, but more people will choose slavery over freedom and so the 'closed society' as you put it will be the more productive and better looking half

I, like all humans, want the open society for myself and the closed society for everyone else. Invariably I don't think either option you present is realistically feasible.

I guess I'm not human, then. Because I want the open society for myself, and recognize that the best way to do that is to make sure that everyone else has it as well.

Good for you, and how will you achieve that if not by closing it for them?

The moment one person abdicates responsibility (and they do), a part of the system is closed.

Do you make every decision for every aspect of your life? Do you have infinite knowledge?

I case the head of closed society is god-like all knowing person, it's fine for me. However such person or group does not exist, and will never be...

Weren't you banned? Why don't you take responsibility for your actions and stop trying to circumvent the ban?

I love how everyone, even the statists, have picked "open society."

Just goes to show their hypocrisy.

Of course they know what's best for themselves.

It's just so happens that everyone else is a moron.

Obviously I would prefer the open society, but it seems a rather odd dichotomy to me; neither of those extremes will persist for long.

Open society, and when the entitlement leeches show up for their free handouts, I handle the problem my way, protecting and preserving my open society by eliminating the threat.

Well, Everyone that picked one.

Objectively, they are both equal. Everyone is treated fairly in either society. But subjectively, which would you rather live it? One where you make your own choices, or one where your choices are made for you?
