Vladimir Putin has been described as a “czar” by fans and critics alike, but a group of Cossacks in St. Petersburg have gone a step further, erecting a statue of Putin in the form of a Roman emperor.

The 20-centimeter [7.9-inch] bust, erected by a group that supports Putin, depicts the Russian leader, head turned imperiously, wearing Roman laurels, armor and a cloak.

“In this image is the symbol of our Russian democracy,” Andrei Polyakov, who heads the Irbis Orthodox Union of Cossacks, which commissioned the statue for their new headquarters outside St. Petersburg, Putin’s hometown, told Russian media.

Dignity? Russian nations don't need Putin to do that, they already have great history, many achievements in science and engineering. What Putin did is caused instability in eastern Europe and is making a sister country bleed out. Also Russian economy is poor (for a country so big and with natural resources), financially Russian people ale also quite poor compared to Europe or US.

nato and the eu are the ones causing instability in eastern europe, do you think russians want to go back to yeltsin times where nato could provide air cover to terrorists against brother orthodox christians and they had to sit there and watch?

russians have always been poorer than western europeans and americans, putin didnt create that. there's a reason his approval ratings are highest among major world leader even during the ruble crash. it is to be commended that the vast majority of russians apart from homosexualists, radical feminists and other traitors value their national honour above material possessions.

It is up to the Russian nationals to decide whether they want to appreciate President Putin's actions or not. According to the latest opinion polls, Putin is having an approval rating of 85%, something which Obama can only dream about. And I would like to know how you are defining the Russian economy as "poor". They may be poorer compared to Western nations such as Germany and France, but when compared to their neighbors, they are much better off.

Who made that study? In Russia there is a huge propaganda apparatus, so Putin can have even 101% of approval.

Yes every country in Europe is wrong, only Russian dictators are right, even Australia is wrong

Middle East countries also were poor but when they started exporting oil they became rich. Russia despite having one of the largest gas resources and plenty of oil, is still relatively poor.

you say "even australia" as if they aren't a puppet of the british and americans who joins them in every war. and what the fuck does the malaysian jet even have to do with anything? whichever side shot it down fucked up and gained nothing from it. putin didnt create the crisis. nato and the eu created it by plotting to recruit ukraine and supporting a coup there without considering russia's opinion and expecting them to do nothing to protect their own people across the border. its not 1998, its not kosovo, russia is a world power again thanks to putin's brilliant leadership.

Many of these polls were conducted by Western firms such as Gallup. Now you can accuse these organizations as being funded by the Kremlin. And regarding the propaganda, who runs the largest propaganda apparatus in the world? Anyone with an IQ of more than 60 will tell you that it is the United States of America.

Vladimir Putin is one of the most famous people in this decade.
His actions always got attention of world people.
Even he got pros and cons responses, in my opinion he is still best leader who could lead Russia.

Yes, because western modus operandi (tax payer paying for the monuments, instead of their private funding like in this case) is so much more "admirable". Problem is in you, not your countrymen.

The Western propaganda tools will always find some idiot in Russia, who is willing to defame his country. These idiots want to bring the "Western-style" democracy to Russia. Russia had a bout with the "Western-style" democracy, from 1992 to 1999. It didn't end well. Resulted in tens of millions of deaths in the form of higher death rates from decreased public health spending. Putin sidelined it and as a result we have Russia once again emerging as a super-power.

You think that every country and every person, that thinks different then Putin is either dumb or an agent of US propaganda. Thats ridicules, if Russia is so "healthy" country then why so many European countries (from Eastern Block) are fleeing from Russia? Yes there are those who partner ship with Russia today but that mostly because they are so close that they don't have an alternative.

Not the nation but the rich people. Social stratification in Russia is huge, the poor are poorer, the rich are richer and most of the middle class is slowly going down. So yeah if you are in elite you can be happy how thing are, but if you poor or somewhere in the middle its not so good any more.

Well... and then what? If they like him, why they shouldn't erect a statue for him at their own new headquarters?

the poor aren't poorer than during the yeltsin years. the rich are a lot richer, the poor are a little richer. and everyone's a little poorer now than a year ago due to the currency crash but data shows russians overwhelmingly place the blame for that on western powers, not their government.

under putin russians have maintained their sense of national honour and agree to tighten their belts and bear the difficult times with stoic dignity. westerners have unfortunately turned into pussies who will vote in a different government offering to give them more welfare at the first sign of trouble with no thought for future generations.

Around 15% of the Russian population is poor, while another 65% can be termed as "middle-class". The rich and the middle-class are doing quite good, when compared to the same in EU nations such as Romania and Bulgaria. The poor find it quite hard, but the government is doing all it can to help them, unlike the neighboring countries such as Ukraine and Moldova.

They are neighbouring if you would consider the TMR government as Federation's protectorate.

Of course .... if you start from 0 ... let's see the progress in the next 5 years !

Poutine claimed => There is no Crisis in Russia ! Really ?

Quote
Moscow (AFP) - Russia's second largest bank VTB said Tuesday it made a loss of 18.3 billion rubles ($371.8 million) in the first quarter, blaming a hike in interest rates and the economic slowdown.

The majority state-owned bank which has been targeted by European Union and United States sanctions had seen its profits almost halved in 2014.

Andrei Kostin, the bank's president, said results reflect the "significant challenges" that the Russian economy has faced.

"The sharp rise in interest rates had a detrimental effect on our margins, and the general economic slowdown led us to continue building significant provisions against our credit exposures."

In December, Russia's central bank hiked the interest rate by a massive 6.5 percentage points to 17 percent. It has since cut the rate twice to 12.5 percent.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, the bank lost 4.6 billion rubles.

The bank received 100 billion rubles in December from Russia's national welfare fund as part of a plan to recapitalise the banking system hit by the falling ruble and Western sanctions.

The national welfare fund is a mammoth pile of money accumulated over the years of high oil prices, when Russia made billions of dollars through its energy exports.

If you remove energy export ... mostly geared by corruption in the country ... Russia will be back to stone age ...

Seems you like numerical value, do we need to recall you why URSS falled ? Hoo yes ... all money in weapons / Space and ?

Quote
Since the USSR's collapse, Russia faced many problems that free market proponents in 1992 did not expect. Among other things, 25% of the population lived below the poverty line, life expectancy had fallen, birthrates were low, and the GDP was halved. These problems led to a series of crises in the 1990s, which nearly led to the election of Yeltsin's Communist challenger, Gennady Zyuganov, in the 1996 presidential election. In recent years, the economy of Russia has begun to improve greatly, due to major investments and business development and also due to high prices of natural resources.

So you like Russia , ok this is your right ... no one will force you to like or not ... this is what we call "Democratic" way of thinking.

Don't forget that what is understood as "poor" in Russia would be an unbearable poverty in some developed countries.
Makes me wonder how they classify people living in these buildings. Are they poor or middle class because they have a roof over their heads, electricity and running water.

Poor in Russia = Unbearably poor in Luxembourg = Middle class in Romania = Wealthy elite in North Korea

When you define the term "poor", you should also take in to account the cost of living as well. A large part of the poor people in Russia grow their own vegetables and other types of food. Their expenses are quite low, when compared to the "poor" people in the Western nations, such as Germany and France.
