Title: Assuming Matthew loses his bet, will he have to buy 50,000+ Bitcoins?
Post by: BC Systems on September 08, 2012, 04:03:39 AM
Will he make a huge purchase on the market increasing the price?

...or is he going to be a scammer?

I think he's going to rack it up to over $1 million soon. He's got nothing to lose now. He's already screwed but has all to gain if a miracle happens.

Its hard to believe pirate40 pissed away ALL the money.... i mean even if he sold alot of the bitcoins that means he has money....

I see no reason for pirate40 not to pay out at the very least most of the coins...

I guess this is what Matt was thinking when he did this bet. I'd say their is still a reasonable chance pirate will pay up.

Pay up with interest at 7% compounded for three weeks on top of what he owed when pirate shut down BTCST.

If pirate had the coins he would have returned them already. Why wait 3 weeks to pay 22% more bitcoins which is like some crazy number above $ 1 million at this point plus the 500k bitcoins.

Edit: TO put things into perspective. The amount of interest pirate owes since he shut down is much larger than the current amount of bitcoins betting against Matthew.

It's very easy to believe. Imagine, for example, he was actually passing through to Zeek.

I missed this, but I've not followed the whole pirate goings-around very closely.  But if the guy controls 20k BTC, that's pretty good...considering he couldn't come up with a single fucking BTC a year ago to pay off someone who did some art work for him.  That earned him a scammer label on this forum, but it was retracted when the general consensus was that he's generally a well meaning soul who likely just suffers some mental issues.

The above is just as I recall things so it should be take with a grain of salt.

Yep, this hypothesis actually makes a lot of sense imo. If true, then his creditors will have to wait a lot to get some money back, if that happens.

He did eventually pay the 1BTC. His screen name back then was Bitmole. Shortly after paying he changed his screen name.
