Title: *NEW* Bitcoin Escrow
Post by: spleeder on May 30, 2011, 06:33:55 PM
Hi guys!

I found out about Bitcoin about a week ago and after reading and understanding about it I got hooked.

Since I do PHP the obvious next step was to try and do something with Bitcoin and PHP. So I came up with this:

http://eptiv.com/ (http://eptiv.com/)

It's a simple and easy to use Bitcoin escrow service. Not sure if it works 100% as it should but I would appreciate it if you guys can give it a try and give me some feedback.

PS. Works well on the iPhone too!

I like your method of releasing them (the 1% transaction fee.) Very neat. As you have only 2 posts however, and ClearCoin already exists, you may have to prove yourself a bit.

Since I wanted to make it as simple as possible, I didn't want users to have to register an account with Eptiv.com so I came up with this idea.

As you have only 2 posts however, and ClearCoin already exists, you may have to prove yourself a bit.

Very true. It only takes time though.

If I'm not asking to much of you could you spare 2 BTC to test the website? You can send the BTC to yourself and I'll pay you back the fee.

Thanks!

Site is down.
However, with ClearCoin having disabled all the charitable defaults, another escrow service would be interesting to try.

Site is back up again. It had some internet connection problems because of a storm.

Brilliant! Default forward escrow.

So if I put MY wallet in the second cell, and the receiver's wallet in the third cell, I can actually send money with a 30 days delay, or cancel any time by paying a 1% fee.

Could you use a test version of your website and integrate it with the bitcoin testnet? You can get lots of free bitcoins on the testnet to experiment with, and the difficulty is lower too.

I think you got it wrong FOCA :D

First of all you don't put any wallets anywhere, you just enter addresses. Second of all when you pay the 1% fee the money is released to the receiver.

Actually I'm being creatively exploitative with the way your site works to perform cheaper transfers and recover my money back if I want to :) You should look into it.

It's definitely a loop hole in the system however for most transactions I don't expect the seller to accept a 30 day delay if receipt of goods/services is much sooner then that, but if you can work it out you pay 0% unless you want to recover your funds downside being the other party should ask what the hell before sending the goods.

Ok, so I finally understand it but it really isn't a loop hole. The seller can see that it is not his Bitcoin release address on the transaction page so he won't send the product at all. So you would end up paying 1% to get your money back.

Thanks for setting up this service.

Suggestion:

Integrate Open Transactions and its PGP-signed Ricardian-style contracts.

Hey spleeder - eptiv.com seems to be down.  I have some BTC in escrow right now so I hope I am able to get them out!  Thanks.

I am aware of the issue. The site has problems because it is hosted in-house. But now since it has gotten quite popular I am moving it to a proper host. Thank you your interest in eptiv.com.

Any progress on this?  I've received the goods for which I placed money into eptiv...  Now I need to get these funds out to make good on my payment to the seller.  :-\

i wanted to take a look how the site was looking but i guess he need a better place to host (or is there a other reason ?)
a escrow service that goes down that lot doesnt seems so good in the first place :s (i do not say that it is bad :D )

anyway , if the site is back up again , let me know so i can take a look :)

Bitcoin needs a serious escrow system, amateur escrows services are spring up everywhere, is not an innovation.

well , i am starting  1 up
but only for paypal , so i can help to eliminate the paypal chargeback fraude

i do not going start it with bitcoin as it is harder for me to manage that part and i still need to figure out a good system to be able to offer the bitcoin escrow service

Now that you mentioned PayPal I get interest.

But how do you do for avoid PayPal restrictions and prohibitions about ß

Title: Re: *NEW* Bitcoin Escrow

i got no problems with it
i got a business account and i sell vps servers ( virtual .. ) and dedicated servers and webhosting
so i am already in the virtual world (makes it easyer to protect from chargebacks as everything is already virtual)

in case paypal locks my account , i still got a backup paypal with a limited amount of funds on that i can use to send from , so i can always provide the payment to the end user (maybe with a bit delay )

in the past 3 years that i use paypal dit only 2 persones suceeded to claim back there money , and 1 of them was because of visa fraude (the thing that can not be checked/protected from ) , then to say to that i handle big amounts of money montly , so the risk that i get blocked is kinda small

Bitcoin itself has nothing to do with it , i just sell a virtual product and if it is bitcoin or a vps server .. it is still a virtual product
and thats where the most users makes a mistake , they say that bitcoin is money when it is basicly just a virtual product (makes a big difference to paypal )

so if you was worried about that part , i can say for this moment that it is safe so far

ps: still waiting on the original site of this topic to get online , i love to see his system he use :D
else i can offer him hosting if his provider is providing problems o.O

This does not appear to be an escrow site; I get a google custom search form.  Did you let the domain expire?

Did you qualify my service as serious escrow ?

I think what people are looking for is an escrow with someone's (or a group's) ass on the line.
