In fact, it is probably much easier than you think to provoke artificial earthquake. This is done by sending vibrations into the ground with the same frequency than natural frequency of the earth (on weak point). You can do this with any kind of material and it allows to break them with pretty low amount of energy. This is a phenomenon called resonance. This is the exact same phenomenon used by a singer that breaks a glass of crystal only with his voice.
