Title: Bitfinex not returning old hot-wallet funds (SOLVED) Post by: kimmel on May 27, 2015, 10:04:21 PM I have serious suspect that Bitfinex is not playing fairly in the hack affair.
Maybe they got hacked, but the common sense says that as they have thousands of users many btc Deposits will keep coming even if they ask nicely to stop. - And then, BITFINEX DO HAVE THE PRIVATE KEYS AND SHOULD CARE OF HACKED ACCOUNTS even someone else may know them too; the obvious step is to keep monitoring the accounts and TRY TO SAVE BTC FROM ITS COSTUMERS AS THEY ARRIVE. The hacked accounts are Bitfinex accounts after all THE FACT: My 0.49 BTC were sitting nearly 3 hours in my deposit account. Nobody took care of it, until finally a withdraw was made. I have answered Support team at bitfinex asking for a new solution, even they have publicly said that they will assume the losses (http://www.coindesk.com/bitfinex-warns-customers-to-halt-deposits-after-suspected-hack/)... but until now....just silence!....really weird... Post by: Indamuck on May 28, 2015, 12:07:22 AM I'm a long-time customer there ... my account got hacked once (largely my fault) and they made me whole to the tune of about US$5k ... so they have had a lot of credibility with me.
No explanation has been forthcoming, but the brief e-mail I had with Raphael makes me think BFX is not sure the source of the hack, though (to me) it looks like some type of inside job. THAT makes BFX' issue much more difficult, because the 'virus' may still be lurking internally ... hence their ongoing silence about the issue. It may be that this insider disposed of, or destroyed BFX' own record of the private keys for old accounts, and BFX is still trying to figure out where they went and what happened. Anyway, that is my WAG (wild-assed guess), and my current working assumption. I love BFX product, and like i said, they have a lot of cred with me, but my concern here is that this may be an internal issue that has yet to be remedied. And until it is, further problems are possible? I've moved the bulk of my coins out ... but expect/hope to be back in full sometime soon. Title: Re: Bitfinex may be taking costumer funds! The title 'Bitfinex may be taking customer funds! is like yelling 'Fire' in a crowded theater, unfair to the business BFX has built, and to the larger cryptocurrency community.

They have a record of doing so. At the same time, they have a small staff, and addressing this breach is taking lots of man-hours I'm sure. Be patient, document your loss, and communicate directly with them via their support e-mail. You may not get a response right away, but they do read their mail, and they do respond when they can, and it is warranted. I do understand people need to vent frustrations but it will take a while before the entire matter has been resolved. If you sent funds to one of their old hit wallet addresses then that is on you.
Their front end support likely does not have immediate access to the private keys in their old hot wallet so it would not be unexpected for it to take a long time for them to secure funds. I got reimbursed after a few days. What I didn't like a lot is the Welcome page when entering Bitfinex saying they wouldn't.
They are reimbursing, but they just say they aren't. This is not so professional. On my side, they got their job done by the way.
